This contract position as a Special Education Teacher offers the unique opportunity to work closely with exceptional students, focusing on academic, functional, and social development for the 2026–2027 school year.
In this role, you’ll manage a specialized classroom designed to foster independence, collaboration, and real-world skills. Oversight of paraprofessionals, as well as direct interaction with students, will allow you to influence learning outcomes on multiple levels. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and comfortable creating tailored plans that cater to diverse learning needs.
Key qualifications for this role include:
- Active certification or licensure as a Special Education Teacher.
- Previous experience working in a high school special education setting (experience specifically running a Life Skills classroom is highly valued).
- Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and compliance.
- Ability to craft and execute functional, goal-oriented lesson plans.
- Familiarity with post-secondary transition planning for students.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to partner effectively with paraprofessionals, students, and families.
Primary responsibilities:
- Oversee the Life Skills classroom environment, ensuring a supportive and structured atmosphere.
- Direct the daily activities of classroom paraprofessionals to support student learning.
- Develop and maintain robust IEPs incorporating academic, functional, and post-secondary goals.
- Regularly assess student progress, adapting strategies to maximize growth.
- Facilitate open communication with families and multidisciplinary teams.
