Job Description

Job DescriptionWho We Are:
Since 1985, BHCHP’s mission has been to ensure unconditionally equitable and dignified access to the highest quality health care for all individuals and families experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. We are committed to ensuring that every one of these individuals has access to comprehensive health care, from preventative dental care to cancer treatment. Our clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals work in more than 30 locations to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—citizens.

From our earliest days as a program, we have always sought to do work that is transformational: recognizing our shared humanity; centering dignity, compassion, mutual respect and supporting the right of every individual to access the highest levels of health care and every staff member to reach their fullest potential. We continue to be committed to building bridges and breaking down barriers, including systemic racism which harms us all. We provide community-based health care services that are compassionate, dignified, and culturally appropriate, incorporating social determinants of health, with the goal of breaking down the physical and systemic barriers that our patients face.

Would you like to work with some of Boston’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—residents? Are you a clinician who is passionate about providing individual and group therapy and collaborating across disciplines to support whole-person care?

At Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP), you’ll find meaningful, challenging, and deeply rewarding work alongside colleagues who share your compassion, commitment, and sense of purpose. Our work is grounded in responding to social crisis and injustice, empowering individuals who have been historically marginalized, building long-term therapeutic relationships, and delivering interventions that can be truly life changing.

We are seeking a dedicated clinician to provide trauma-informed, patient-centered care to adults experiencing homelessness. This role includes conducting intakes, assessments, and evaluations, and providing ongoing individual and/or group therapy to patients with a wide range of clinical and social needs. The clinician will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members and medical providers to support integrated treatment planning and will work alongside patients to coordinate referrals to community-based and specialty services.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by advancing health equity, fostering resilience, and walking alongside patients as they work toward stability and healing.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial behavioral health evaluations and provide ongoing therapeutic support to patients.
  • Deliver individual and/or group therapy and provide crisis intervention, including consultation on psychiatric emergencies.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care providers and interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive, integrated care.
  • Coordinate and facilitate referrals to addiction treatment programs and other community-based supports.
  • Provide patient education, follow-up care (in person and by phone), and ongoing support.
  • Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation, including billing authorizations, grant, and project-related reports.
  • Participate in agency committees, weekly treatment team meetings, clinic staff meetings, and clinical supervision as required.
  • Complete special projects and assignments as directed.
  • LICSWs may provide clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians.

Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts LICSW or LMHC preferred; LCSW required or license eligible.
  • Must obtain licensure within required timelines (LCSW within 18 months; LMHC within 42 months of hire).
  • Candidates pursuing LCSW licensure must have submitted an application to the MA Board of Registration of Social Workers and have not failed the licensing exam more than once.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or addiction strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of community and health resources, particularly addiction-related services.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and sensitivity to diverse identities, beliefs, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work with patients with complex medical, psychiatric, and social needs.
  • Flexible, receptive to supervision, and able to travel to multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving underserved populations.
  • Life support training certification (e.g. CPR, BLS, ACLS) from a course that includes a hands-on, in-person component required within 60 days of hire if not already certified.
