Background
Showa Boston Institute of Language and Culture is a residential academic institution for about 300 students established by Showa Women’s University in Tokyo in 1988. Its mission is to increase students’ English proficiency, to develop their cross-cultural awareness, and to foster their personal growth. The 40-acre campus rests on a hilltop overlooking the Boston skyline. At the heart of the campus are administrative offices, residences, and a dining hall, and educational facilities.
Position Summary
Assist in the operations, maintenance, and repairs of all the buildings and grounds. We seek an individual looking for a long-term position that is willing to be open to all aspects of commercial industrial facilities maintenance. We are seeking an individual that seeks a position in facilities to grow with a seasoned, small unique team to cross over in all trades and work as a unit.
Compensation
Hourly range: $25.75 - $35.75 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time
8:30 a.m. to 5:00p.m.
Essential Job Functions
- Under the direction of the Facilities Manager and Building Systems Manager, assist in the facilities operation including assisting with the boiler plant and associated equipment, plumbing and electrical distribution systems, HVAC systems, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, swimming pool systems, Koi Pond systems, and other equipment.
- Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, maintain and assist in the repair of the above equipment as required.
- Conduct routine tours of mechanical areas and address proper operational and safety concerns and perform preventative maintenance.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Repair walls around campus including within dormitories, offices, halls, etc.
- Repair bathroom fixture, change binds, and complete work order tasks as assigned.
- Provide 24/7 emergency coverage and share "on call" responsibility with other members of the facilities staff.
- Perform possible additional hours due to emergency situations during the evenings, weekends or holiday hours as the need arises.
- Conduct shoveling/plowing of snow/ice from the facilities' roads, walkways and stairs to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Perform other duties as requested and/or needed by the Facilities Manager.
Skills
- Knowledge of materials, hand and power tools and practices used in the building and mechanical trades.
- Knowledgeable of safety precautions and use of hand, power tools, and equipment used in the trades involved.
Requirements
- 5 years of facilities maintenance background commercial or residential maintenance or comparable experience
- Ability to lift and/or transport heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.
- High School diploma or GED
- ALICE Active Shooter Response Training certified within first 30 days of employment (Showa provided training)
- Acquire and maintain Certified Pool Operator during employment (Showa to assist in securing certification)
- Required to have valid driver’s license
