Part-Time Diabetic Child Care Specialist – Wellesley, MA

A loving family is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced caregiver to provide attentive, specialized care for our toddler who has Type 1 Diabetes. The family has three children ages 9, 6 and 4 years old. The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing diabetes in young children, a strong understanding of pediatric nutrition, and the ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively. This role involves not only managing the child's medical needs but also creating a nurturing, stimulating, and safe environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Pay Rate: $35 – $40 per hour
  • 2 weeks paid vacation (one week of the family's choosing, one week of the nanny's)

  • 3–5 personal/sick days

  • All major holidays paid & off

  • Healthcare stipend

Schedule:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 12:00pm – 8:00pm

  • Tuesday and Thursday: 3:00pm – 8:00pm

  • Guaranteed 34 hours

Key Responsibilities

Diabetes Management:

  • Monitor blood glucose levels using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and/or finger sticks

  • Administer insulin via pump or injection as needed, based on caregiver training and family instructions

  • Track food intake, carbohydrate counting, and adjust insulin doses accordingly

  • Respond appropriately to hypo- or hyperglycemic episodes and know when to seek medical assistance

  • Keep detailed records of blood sugar levels, insulin administration, meals, and activity

Daily Childcare Duties:

  • Provide attentive supervision and engage the child in age-appropriate activities and play

  • Assist with feeding, diapering, potty training (if applicable), napping, and hygiene

  • Prepare healthy meals and snacks aligned with diabetes-friendly nutritional guidelines

  • Ensure the child's emotional and developmental needs are met through play, reading, and learning activities

Safety and Emergency Preparedness:

  • Remain calm and follow emergency protocols in case of medical incidents

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and child-proof environment at all times

  • Be familiar with and able to use emergency diabetes supplies (glucagon, fast-acting sugar, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must provide 3–5 professional references

  • CPR/First Aid certified

  • Covid Vaccinated
