Maintenance Technician
Location: Ayer / Devens, MA 01434
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to support production operations by maintaining and troubleshooting advanced manufacturing equipment, including laser processing systems, CNC machinery, material finishing equipment, and facility systems. This role ensures high machine uptime, performs preventive maintenance, and rapidly resolves mechanical and electrical issues to keep production running efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laser-based CNC systems, automated equipment, polishing/lapping machinery, and supporting production equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system issues to minimize downtime
- Inspect, repair, replace, and adjust motors, sensors, bearings, drives, and machine components
- Install, calibrate, and align machine components and workholding fixtures as needed
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, parts inventory, and work orders in accordance with safety and quality standards
- Assist with facility maintenance tasks, including HVAC, compressed air systems, lighting, and general building systems
- Support production teams by responding quickly to machine issues and identifying long-term reliability improvements
- Coordinate with outside vendors and service technicians when advanced repairs are required
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and equipment manufacturer guidelines
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing maintenance role; experience with CNC or laser equipment preferred
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and control systems
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and maintenance documentation
- Familiarity with PLC-driven equipment, motion systems, sensors, or automation is a plus
- Experience with hand tools, multimeters, calipers, micrometers, and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally and work indoors in a standing, hands-on environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or alongside production and quality teams
Preferred Skills:
- Experience maintaining industrial laser systems or CNC machining centers
- Knowledge of precision materials such as ceramics, metals, and composite substrates
- CMMS or maintenance software experience
