The Infectious Disease (ID) Physician plays a crucial role in diagnosing, managing, and preventing infectious diseases at our medical center and its associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) across New Hampshire. This specialist provides expert consultations and direct patient care in an outpatient environment, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports infection prevention efforts throughout the facility and CBOCs.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Consultation and Direct Patient Care:
- Conduct thorough assessments and create management plans for patients with known or suspected infectious diseases, including complex, multidrug-resistant, and opportunistic infections.
- Offer prompt bedside consultative support for outpatients referred for infectious disease evaluations.
- Perform necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to infectious disease management.
- Antimicrobial Stewardship:
- Engage in antimicrobial stewardship initiatives, which include reviewing antimicrobial prescriptions, tracking resistance trends, and formulating guidelines to encourage the responsible use of antibiotics.
- Collaborate with pharmacy and laboratory services to enhance antimicrobial selection and de-escalation strategies.
- Infection Prevention and Control:
- Provide guidance on infection control policies and practices to reduce healthcare-associated infections.
- Participate in hospital infection prevention efforts, including outbreak investigations, surveillance programs, and policy formulation.
- Educate staff and patients on infection prevention strategies and emerging infectious diseases.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work alongside primary care and specialty providers to enhance patient care and facilitate transitions of care.
- Effectively communicate complex diagnostic and management information to patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Act as a resource for clinical staff on infectious disease topics.
- Continuous Quality Improvement and Education:
- Participate in quality improvement and clinical research initiatives related to infectious diseases.
- Engage in continuing medical education and maintain board certification as required.
- Present and participate in hospital conferences, grand rounds, and educational sessions focused on infectious diseases.
- Administrative Responsibilities:
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to committee work as assigned.
- Assist in the development and review of medical center policies relevant to infectious disease management.
- Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
- Complete all medical records in compliance with the Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
- Utilize the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) for data entry, retrieval, and management of patient activities.
Working Conditions
This is a part-time position, with the specific work schedule to be determined collaboratively between the Physician and their Supervisor.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay: Salary is prorated for part-time work, with a competitive salary structure, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
- Paid Time Off: Enjoy 50-55 days of paid time off annually, which includes 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and potentially 5 days of paid absence for continuing medical education (CME).
