OVERVIEW

Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding community– many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning. Bridge Boston’s robust social-emotional program is designed with an eye to supporting students who have experienced trauma in their homes and communities.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the 5th-8th DCI, the building substitute instructs students and facilitates student learning in the absence of the regular teacher.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Promote and support the school’s mission and values, reflecting a deep respect for all students, families, and staff
  • Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans
  • Create a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment
  • Maintain established routines of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility
  • Communicate effectively with parents when needed
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated
  • Participate in myriad forms of professional development as scheduled for all faculty
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Direct experience working with children
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, with different audiences, including students, parents/guardians, and staff
  • Value of diversity and demonstration of cultural competence and sensitivity; experience in supporting diverse needs and working with diverse populations.
  • Adaptive, flexible, and resourceful problem solver
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Strong team player and experience working collaboratively
  • Life-long learner; willingness to make and learn from mistakes; passion for learning new things
  • Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole highly desirable
