Pharmacist – Hospital Setting

Hyannis, MA 02601
Duration: 26 Weeks
Schedule: 40 Hours/Week

  • Primarily 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Occasional 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM
  • Every other weekend and holiday required

Position Summary

The Pharmacist is responsible for preparing, dispensing, and controlling medications and pharmaceutical products in accordance with federal and state regulations, professional standards, Joint Commission (JCAHO) guidelines, and hospital policies and procedures. This role supports safe and effective medication use across patient care areas, with a focus on evening and overnight operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, dispense, and control medications and pharmaceutical products in compliance with federal, state, and hospital standards.
  • Review medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and clinical appropriateness (dosage, compatibility, scheduling, and medication selection).
  • Compound pharmaceutical products as needed, including IV admixtures, TPN, and other sterile preparations using accepted standards of practice.
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation of medications and supplies per regulatory and hospital requirements.
  • Assign, supervise, and monitor tasks performed by pharmacy support personnel.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of medication therapies, product advances, and developments.
  • Provide drug information and clinical support to medical, nursing, and allied health staff.
  • Issue and manage medications distributed to patient care units and authorized departments.
  • Perform medication order entry, provide clinical information, and maintain telephone availability support during evening/night shifts.
  • Follow all hospital medication policies and procedures for medication handling and order processing.
  • Deliver service excellence to patients, families, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy program.
  • Active Massachusetts Pharmacist license (required).
  • Demonstrated ability to practice hospital pharmacy in accordance with current professional standards.
  • Competency in operating required pharmacy and medication-related equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently during evening/night shifts.
