Installation Technician

The Installation Technician is responsible for the comprehensive lifecycle management of specialized in-vehicle communication and emergency equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire technical process—including scoping, programming, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, removal, and servicing—for a variety of hardware.

  • Manage the integration of two-way mobile radios, repeaters, tablets, wireless modems, speakers, lights, sirens, center consoles, antennas, and all necessary wiring into customer vehicles.

  • Perform installations across a critical and diverse fleet of vehicles, including police cruisers, K-9 units, fire trucks, ambulances, public works plow trucks, school buses, tow trucks, and various other commercial vehicles.

  • Ensure service delivery exceeds customer expectations and meets all company operational requirements.

  • Directly contribute to maintaining essential communication capabilities for public safety, education, and public works departments within our communities.

Compensation and Logistics:

  • The successful candidate will be provided with a company service vehicle, a gas card, and all requisite tools and equipment.

  • Work assignments will be managed by the Service Coordinator, with dispatch occurring from either the primary office or the technician's home location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of audio, RF, digital, and microprocessor electronic circuits found in communications equipment at the component level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of 2-way radio theory, RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands and communications systems.
  • Proficiency in operating various test equipment including but not limited to, spectrum analyzers, system analyzers, Oscilloscopes, watt meters, TDRs, and multi-meters.
  • CET Certification is a plus. Journeyman level must be attained within 1 year of employment.
  • Must be team-focused with a passion to meet customer requirements and company goals.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and provide technical support and service of wireless communications equipment such as UHF/VHF analog and digital systems. Operating mobile, portable radio equipment, dispatch consoles, and microwave systems, using both conventional and trunked radio technologies.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair public address systems and BDA systems.
  • Make minor modifications to electronic circuitry per customer requests and/or deploy factory software/firmware updates.
  • Install coaxial cabling, connectors, antennas, and couplers in accordance with customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Some travel and on-call hours will be required.
  • Understand AC/DC voltage and power systems
  • Install power supplies, distribution panels, backup power systems and batteries
  • Maintain all company issued tools and equipment and ensure serviceability
  • Maintain company issued vehicle and ensure it is serviced at regular intervals
