The Test Development Engineer designs, develops, and maintains test equipment and test plans that support manufacturing and operations for both existing and new products. This role collaborates closely with design, hardware, quality, manufacturing, validation, and product management teams to ensure reliable, efficient, and accurate testing. The engineer provides hands-on technical support, drives continuous improvement of test processes, and ensures proper documentation and preventive maintenance of all test systems and fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Design and debug test equipment to support manufacturing and operations for existing and new products.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans and test equipment based on inputs from design and hardware engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing engineering, validation engineering, and product management.
  • Maintain and improve current production test equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Support the development and implementation of new test equipment strategies for new products in collaboration with manufacturing engineering.
  • Provide technical support to quality, manufacturing, and engineering teams on a variety of test-related tasks and issues.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for existing and newly developed test equipment, including procedures, drawings, and configurations.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on test equipment and fixtures to minimize downtime and improve test reliability.
  • Perform soldering, wiring, and setup of test equipment and fixtures as required to improve testing performance and correct false failures.
  • Execute test plans on new and existing test fixtures and ensure results are accurate and repeatable.
  • Troubleshoot test equipment, fixtures, and circuits using tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and other electronic instruments.
  • Identify root causes of test failures and implement corrective actions to improve product and test quality.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and procedures to support test development and troubleshooting activities.
  • Communicate effectively with the quality assurance group and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvements in test processes and product quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to build effective working relationships and resolve complex technical issues.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an upcoming completion of an Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Hands-on experience with component-level troubleshooting of analog circuits.
  • Proficiency in using electronic test tools and equipment such as oscilloscopes, power meters, frequency counters, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Ability to design, debug, and maintain test equipment and test fixtures for manufacturing environments.
  • Experience executing test plans on new and existing test fixtures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills using tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical procedures.
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW for test development or automation.
  • Ability to perform soldering and wiring on test equipment and fixtures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel for documentation, communication, and reporting.
  • Self-motivated mindset with a focus on continuous growth and learning.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to influence and resolve complex technical issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience developing and maintaining test fixtures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with validation activities and root cause analysis for test and product failures.
  • Experience working closely with quality assurance, manufacturing engineering, validation engineering, and product management teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional stakeholders and drive process improvements.
  • Comfort working with analog electronics and test equipment at the component level.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining documentation and managing multiple test systems and projects.

Work Environment

The role operates in a manufacturing-focused environment where test equipment and fixtures support production operations. You will work hands-on with electronic test instruments such as oscilloscopes, power meters, frequency counters, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers, as well as LabVIEW-based or similar automated test systems. The position involves time on the manufacturing floor and in lab settings, performing preventive maintenance, soldering, wiring, and equipment setup to ensure reliable testing. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Derry, NH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $115000.00/hr.
