About the Opportunity
Our client, Zarwin Baum, is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join its North Jersey team in Jersey City, NJ. This position is ideal for an attorney with 3–8 years of insurance defense litigation experience who can independently manage a caseload while collaborating with experienced litigators and firm leadership.
Experience handling New Jersey automobile liability matters is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Independently manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from inception through resolution.
Handle automobile liability and other casualty litigation matters under New Jersey law.
Draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, briefs, memoranda, reports, and other legal documents.
Conduct and defend depositions.
Handle motion practice and court appearances.
Participate in arbitrations and mediations.
Prepare cases for trial and assist with trial proceedings.
Conduct legal research and develop effective litigation strategies.
Communicate regularly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, corporate clients, opposing counsel, and other parties.
Provide case evaluations, status reports, and recommendations to clients and insurance carriers.
Maintain organized case files and meet litigation deadlines.
Work closely with senior attorneys and firm leadership on complex litigation matters.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Active New Jersey law license in good standing.
3–8 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
Experience independently managing litigation matters and caseloads.
Strong experience with:
Pleadings
Discovery
Depositions
Motion practice
Legal research
Legal writing
Court appearances
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and case-management abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and firm leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience defending New Jersey automobile liability matters.
Experience representing insurance carriers or self-insured entities.
Casualty litigation experience.
Premises liability defense experience.
Arbitration and mediation experience.
Trial and courtroom experience.
Existing relationships with insurance carriers, claims professionals, or corporate clients.
Strong understanding of New Jersey civil litigation procedures.
Work Environment
This is a flexible hybrid position based in the firm's Jersey City, NJ office. New attorneys are generally expected to work 2–3 days per week in the office initially, with the hybrid schedule being loosely enforced.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a New Jersey-licensed attorney with 3–8 years of insurance defense litigation experience, capable of independently managing cases from inception through resolution. Candidates with strong NJ automobile liability, casualty litigation, deposition, motion practice, and courtroom experience will be especially competitive.
