JOB PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of machinery and equipment throughout the plant and facilities. This position ensures all equipment operates efficiently and safely to support production goals. The Maintenance Mechanic also maintains tools, documents repair activities, and follows all maintenance and safety standards in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on production equipment.
  • Perform basic electrical, wiring, and motor repair as needed.
  • Order, replace, and install machine parts to minimize downtime.
  • Repair, install, and maintain safety guards and protective devices on machinery.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on equipment according to schedule.
  • Perform general facility maintenance, including building and grounds upkeep.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in safe, organized condition.
  • Document and report maintenance activities, repairs, and completed projects.
  • Follow all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and SQF/ISO standards.
  • Assist in training and mentoring other maintenance or production staff.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
  • Perform additional department duties as assigned.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma
  • Overall mechanical knowledge of machinery and how to repair
  • Overall knowledge of electrical installation

SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and drive systems.
  • Ability to prioritize maintenance requests and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills across departments.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintenance documentation.
  • Commitment to safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Basic computer literacy for maintenance logs and parts ordering systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT:

  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to work with small parts and tools.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical components, and occasional hot or cold temperatures.
  • Work performed primarily on the production floor and maintenance areas.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • May be required to work weekends, evenings, or on-call shifts for maintenance emergencies.
