Responsibilities
The Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technician will join our engineering team to support existing hardware, design new solutions, and troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues on our product line of oceanographic research equipment. This position will primarily be working with our underwater plankton imaging system. This position is highly multidisciplinary, with skills desired in computer network engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical assembly.
Requirements
- Minimum education: associate’s degree or higher in electrical, network, or systems engineering technology preferred, and 5 to 15 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with the Linux operating system and particularly the Debian distribution.
- Proficiency with serial communication and networking protocols. Ability to support customers’ networking issues related to our product.
- Experience with Circuit Studio, Altium, or similar. Altium preferred. Experience with MS Office, Multisim, MATLAB is a plus.
- Ability to perform electronic assembly including soldering, desoldering, wire harnessing, circuit board rework and installation, and connector assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and engineering specifications.
- Strong circuit troubleshooting skills, mixed-signal applications: microcontrollers, motor control, wired communications, etc.
- Proficiency with common laboratory engineering and test equipment, including logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, digital multimeters, and other support equipment.
- Experience using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, crimping tools, torque wrenches, and power tools.
- Experience in assembly and integration of mechanical components with electrical and electronic subsystems.
- Experience performing engineering analyses and writing test plans, procedures, specifications, wiring diagrams and test reports.
- Ability to work independently, and with other engineers, technicians, and clients to troubleshoot issues.
- Strong communication skills: able to write/update technical documents, answer user queries, and train users.
