Location: Brockton, MA
Shift: 2nd Shift
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $60,000–$75,000 per year

About the Opportunity

Sterling is seeking an experienced Maintenance Lead to join a food manufacturing operation in Brockton, MA. This position will support the Maintenance Manager and help lead day-to-day maintenance activities across the production facility.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical maintenance, high-speed packaging equipment, PLC troubleshooting, and facility systems in a USDA- or FDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Maintenance Manager and coordinate maintenance activities in their absence.
  • Partner with Production, Sanitation, Logistics, and other departments to troubleshoot and resolve facility and equipment issues.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain high-speed processing and packaging equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, issue work orders, and help ensure equipment is ready for production.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 110V, 230V, and 460V electrical systems, including motors, panels, starters, relays, timers, breakers, and wiring.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and perform basic PLC troubleshooting and programming.
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, check-weighers, cartoners, UPC coding systems, and other packaging machinery.
  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Fabricate parts and modify equipment as needed to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.
  • Support facility maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, lighting, building, office, and grounds repairs.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors during maintenance and repair projects.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the facility.
  • Train employees on safe lift operation, welding, and other maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with coaching and training wastewater technicians and provide coverage during extended absences.
  • Mentor and support maintenance and production personnel.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and prioritize maintenance needs based on production requirements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a USDA- or FDA-regulated food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience maintaining high-speed processing and packaging equipment.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience with 110V, 230V, and 460V systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting and programming experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and production reliability.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
