MERL is looking for research interns to conduct research into building and training novel architectures for small (~1 billion parameters) vision + language models. Interesting research directions include (a) diffusion and flow matching-based architectures, (b) architectures for improved visual reasoning, and (c) reducing confabulation using information-theoretic principles. Prior experience with machine learning/computer vision/natural language processing research, and proficiency in building and experimenting with machine learning models using a framework like PyTorch are required. About the RoleThe Principal Research Associate/ Research Scientist will join our in vivo Pharmacology team within the Platform Biology group and will be a key player in driving our cutting-edge AI RNA therapeutics discovery platform. In this role, you will be responsible for helping lead in vivo therapeutic efficacy testing efforts of novel RNA therapeutics in various animal models. You will also support target validation, therapeutic lead optimization and drug profiling through the implementation and execution of novel molecular assays to advance our internal therapeutics portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong molecular biology background with expertise in processing tissue samples as well as experience with rodent models. Relevant knowledge of RNA modalities such as ADAR, ASO, mRNA and/or siRNAs is also highly beneficial. The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative and be able to thrive in a dynamic work environment with cross-functional teams working together to achieve company goals. Title is commensurate with prior experience.&nbsp; This position is onsite at our Cambridge, MA site.Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Perform standard molecular biology techniques in a consistent and reproducible manner (e.g. PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, ELISA, Western blot, Jess/Leo capillary-based Western blot, etc.).</li>
<li>Support the development of novel molecular, cellular and functional assays on animal samples for our internal therapeutic pipeline.</li>
<li>Plan and execute in vivo rodent studies to enable drug discoveryCollaborate with a cross-functional team in a dynamic, matrixed environment to achieve shared company deadlines.</li>
<li>Clearly document experiments, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and data in an electronic lab notebook (ELN).</li>

Basic Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Degree in Pharmacology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or a related field with a BS and 6-8+ years of relevant experience, a MS and 4-6+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD and 0-2+ years of relevant pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience.</li>
<li>Strong understanding of molecular biology and tissue sample processing for RNA and protein readouts as well as a familiarity with Next-Generation Sequencing techniques (NGS).</li>
<li>Experience with rodents, running animal studies, and in vivo study design is highly desirable.</li>
<li>Experienced in design,&nbsp; execution and analysis of molecular assays.</li>
<li>Excellent communication, organizational skills and a willingness to learn.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced technical environment</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Hands-on experience using liquid handlers is preferred (ex. Beckman Echo, Agilent Bravo and Hamilton STAR/STAR V.).</li>
<li>Past experience with RNA editing and/or RNA oligonucleotides.</li>
<li>Knowledge of histology and immunohistochemical assays and quantification is a bonus.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams.</li>

The client is seeking a motivated full time contract Biostatistician. This is a hybrid position (requires minimum of 1 day/ week in the office in Watertown, MA). In this role, you will be supporting all statistical activities across multiple studies at the biotech including study monitoring, reporting, simulation studies and generating real word evidence. The position reports to the Head of Biometrics.
Responsibilities
• Perform simulations, modeling, and validation of datasets, tables, listings, and figures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Independently perform statistical analyses as per the analysis plan. Collaborate with study teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs according to the timelines. Identify and anticipate issues arising in the study design, conduct and propose scientifically sound approaches. 
• Develop strategy for data presentation and inference. Ensure appropriate interpretation of statistical deliverables in collaboration with other functions. Collaborate in publication of scientific research. Ensure accuracy and internal consistency of reports and publications, including tables, listings, and figures.
• Work collaboratively with multifunctional study teams.
Additional Skills &amp; Qualifications
• Minimum Ph.D. in Statistics or related field

The position requires a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related fields with a strong fundamental background in combustion, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, material science and applied mathematics.&nbsp; Extensive experience in experimental methods in thermal fluids, material flammability, heat transfer, combustion/fire, and an understanding of associated numerical methods are required. Research experience with advanced laser diagnostics in flame, experimental measurement in turbulent flame, heat transfer and failure analysis of battery is desirable. Also needed are excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated expertise in developing solutions to challenging technical problems.
