The Position
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Therapeutic Community Supervisor to join our team. Therapeutic Community Supervisors are leaders within a therapeutic milieu, creative, flexible, and excited by our “whatever it takes” approach to the work. You will work closely with our residential treatment team to provide supportive learning and leisure opportunities to our neurodiverse students. The position involves supporting students in activities of daily living, engaging individuals and groups in leisure activities and community involvement and implementing our therapeutic frameworks. At the core, it involves driving outcomes and supporting young people in developing the skills and tools they need to transition into their adult lives. This position also requires the ability to take initiative and a desire to lead and provide feedback to team members.
Key Responsibilities

<li>Supervise therapeutic community counselors in ensuring the safety and smooth 24-hour operation of the residential program.</li>
<li>Support students with daily stressors using therapeutic frameworks supported by Ivy Street, including CPI, PBIS, and the ARC Framework of Trauma-Informed Care, and demonstrate mastery of these treatment models.</li>
<li>Engage with students throughout all daily activities and lessons, and support them in accessing residential programming—make learning fun and joyful. Help build and strengthen students’ relationships with skill building and academic success.</li>
<li>Assist the program manager in overseeing departmental tasks and goals as well as overall facility operations.</li>
<li>Demonstrate strong group management skills.</li>
<li>Perform crisis intervention when required.</li>
<li>Lead off-campus school trips to enhance skills in the community.</li>
<li>Maintain a therapeutic residential environment by ensuring the highest standards of health and safety and implementing school-wide therapeutic frameworks.</li>

<li>Use professional skills to access and respond to changing psychological, physical and social needs of the resident population.</li>

<li>Utilize American Association of Service Coordinators (AASC) software as well as other industry specific software as needed. </li>
</ul>

<li>Provide a receptive environment which encourages trusting relationships and the opportunity for resident confidentiality when appropriate. </li>

<li>Use clinical and organizational skills to balance increasing resident needs with available community resources.</li>
</ul>

<li>Assist tenants to identify services and benefits needed to maintain independence and facilitate accessing those services.</li>
</ul>

<li>Develop relationships and maintain linkages with community agencies to enhance responsiveness to resident needs as well as to be aware of developments in community services.</li>
</ul>

<li>Link residents with existing services provided by social service agencies to access entitlement services and funding resources. </li>
</ul>

<li>Sponsor educational events which may include subjects relating to health care, agency support, life skills, referral sources, etc.</li>
</ul>

<li>Coordinate resident services as necessary. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Work with residents to develop new community-oriented activities and social programs. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Work with residents and families when transitioning to a nursing home is under consideration or becomes necessary. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Work with management staff to assist with problems identified through unit inspections, recertification or other encounters. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Assist management staff in the resolution of tenant disputes or when situations of unusual tenant behavior occur.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Provide monthly activity reports and annual reports to comply with Barkan Management Company, Inc. and HUD monitoring requirements.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Maintain strict confidentiality with residents, unless reason to believe resident is being abused or neglected or is at risk. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Maintain a file for all tenants accessing supportive services, including releases of information and progress notes.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Assist with any other such assigned duties per the request of the Property Manager. </li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Attend various trainings as required by Barkan Management Company, Inc. and HUD.</li>
</ul>

<li>Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail</li>
<li>A Bachelor of Social Work or degree in Psychology or Counseling is preferred. </li>
<li>Demonstrated working knowledge of supportive services and various resources that will be required to perform the duties of an RSC successfully.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to advocate, organize, problem-solve, and provide results for the residents you will be serving.</li>

Role of Direct Support Providers

Opportunity to work with an active, enthusiastic, 30-year-old individual on the Autism Spectrum. He lives in Jamaica Plain with his mother. He loves sports, like basketball, and is looking for someone to take him on community outings on the weekends. Job entails accompanying client on community outings to the movies, library, the YMCA to play basketball, and on walks around the pond. This individual's goals are to increase health and be social in the community. The family is looking for someone to work 5-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday.
