CNC Turning Setup Specialist (Okuma/Fanuc)

PublishedPublished: 6/14/2022
Manufacturing

Job Description

Job Description A day in this role

You arrive to find an Okuma lathe ready for a new run. You review the blueprint, interpret GD&T callouts, load tooling, and dial in zero points. You verify dimensions with hand gauges, then move to the optical comparator and CMM for first-article checks. A quick G/M code tweak optimizes cycle time, and you complete a complex setup from clear work instructions—confidently and with limited supervision. By shift end, the machine is producing consistent, spec-perfect parts for production.

What you’ll handle

  • Set up and operate standard CNC lathes for production runs.
  • Work primarily on Okuma machines utilizing Fanuc and Okuma controls.
  • Read blueprints and apply GD&T to ensure parts meet specification.
  • Use measuring tools from hand instruments to optical comparator and CMM for in-process and final checks.
  • Read and understand G and M code; make simple program edits as needed.
  • Independently execute complex setups using work instructions or setup guides with limited supervision.

What you bring

  • CNC Machinist Level 2 or 3 experience.
  • Hands-on background with Okuma lathes and both Fanuc and Okuma controls.
  • Strong blueprint literacy and GD&T comprehension.
  • Confidence using measuring equipment ranging from hand tools to CMM and optical comparator.
  • Ability to read G- and M-code and perform minor edits.
  • Proven capability to set up complex jobs from provided instructions with minimal oversight.
