The Town of Brewster seeks a qualified and collaborative professional to serve as its next Treasurer/Collector. As a key member of our Finance Team, this Department Head position oversees municipal funds, revenue collection, payroll, employee benefits, debt management, and cash flow to ensure the Town's long-term financial stability.
Under the administrative direction of the Town Manager, the Treasurer/Collector plans and directs the collections of receipts, accounting, investment, and disbursement of all Town funds; reconciling accounts and ensuring compliance with Town, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements. They manage the Town’s debt obligations, including paying principal and interest on maturing debt and preparing documents for bond issues. The role is also responsible for the preparation of employee payroll including payroll taxes, W2s, 1095Cs and the maintenance of related records, and maintains and administers group health insurance plans and retirement plans.
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, finance, business, accounting or a related field with a minimum of seven years related work experience, and a minimum of five years in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Previous municipal experience is a plus. Must be certified by the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association or have the ability to obtain certification within 3-5 years of date of hire. Must have and maintain the integrity to obtain surety bonding. The successful candidate is detailed oriented and is expected to work collaboratively with Town officials and departments to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with state and federal regulations. This is a full-time position, covered under the Town’s Personnel Bylaw Agreement, with an annual starting salary range of $116,563.00 - $131,185.00 depending on qualifications and experience.
