Machine Operator – 3rd Shift

Location: Ayer, MA
Pay Rate: $22–$23/hour + potential incentives
Shift: 3rd Shift

Position Overview

Emkat Inc. Staffing and Recruiting Agency is seeking reliable and detail-oriented Machine Operators to support our manufacturing clients across food, plastics, packaging, and industrial production environments. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in quality work, enjoy hands-on machine operation, and thrive in fast-paced production settings.

Machine Operators are responsible for safely operating, monitoring, and maintaining production equipment while ensuring consistent output, product quality, and compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate automated and semi-automated production equipment, including fillers, cappers, labelers, conveyors, presses, extruders, case packers, and palletizers
  • Perform machine setups, startups, shutdowns, and changeovers according to work orders and production schedules
  • Load raw materials and packaging components such as bottles, caps, labels, cartons, and pallets
  • Monitor machine performance, production speed, and efficiency; make minor adjustments to maintain quality and output
  • Perform in-process and final quality inspections using visual checks and basic measuring tools
  • Identify defects, material issues, or equipment malfunctions and report concerns to supervisors or maintenance teams
  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and assist maintenance during repairs when required
  • Accurately complete production records, downtime logs, and quality documentation
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with GMP, HACCP, and workplace safety standards
  • Follow all safety procedures including PPE usage, lockout/tagout awareness, and sanitation protocols
  • Work collaboratively with team members, leads, and supervisors to meet daily production goals
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing or machine operating experience (food, plastics, packaging, or industrial manufacturing preferred)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and production reporting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • English fluency (spoken and written); bilingual skills are a plus
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SQF, or ISO standards is an advantage
