Job Title: Operations Technician

Job Description

The Operations Technician plays a key role in warehouse and inventory operations by accurately receiving, handling, storing, and shipping materials and specimens in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements. This position uses inventory management systems and documentation practices to ensure precise tracking of samples and materials, supports quality metrics, and participates in continuous process improvement activities. The role involves working with material handling equipment and handling items stored at a wide range of controlled temperatures, including ultra-low conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, examine, sort, and arrange incoming materials and specimens in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
  • Count, store, pick, and pack items for storage and shipment, ensuring accuracy and completeness of orders.
  • Use an inventory management system to perform data entry, track samples, and manage inventory records.
  • Compile operational data and prepare routine reports to support inventory control and warehouse performance tracking.
  • Prepare, file, and maintain routine documentation in line with Good Document Practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Maintain and support quality metrics by following standard operating procedures and reporting deviations or issues.
  • Participate in process improvement activities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and safety within the operation.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as hand trucks and pallet jacks, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work regularly in and out of a +4&degree;C walk-in cold room, -20&degree;C walk-in freezer, and -40&degree;C walk-in freezer.
  • Handle materials and specimens stored at temperatures down to -196&degree;C, following all safety and handling guidelines.
  • Follow all warehouse safety procedures, including proper lifting, handling, and movement of materials.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete daily tasks and resolve operational issues, while also working independently when needed.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 18 months of proven experience in an operations, warehouse, or similar environment.
  • Knowledge gained by working in an FDA-regulated environment using Good Document Practices.
  • Ability to use Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to stand and move about the warehouse for significant periods of time, including walking, stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and also perform tasks independently while solving problems quickly.
  • Ability to read and write in English to follow procedures and complete documentation.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, push up to 70 lbs frequently, and push up to 100 lbs occasionally.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with inventory control processes is a plus.
  • Experience working with or for a life science company is an advantage.
  • Experience using handheld scanners and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies is preferred.
  • Experience or exposure to manufacturing environments is beneficial.

Work Environment

This position is based in a warehouse and storage facility that uses controlled-temperature environments, including a +4&degree;C walk-in cold room, a -20&degree;C walk-in freezer, and a -40&degree;C walk-in freezer, as well as areas where materials are stored at temperatures down to -196&degree;C. The role requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, and reaching throughout the shift, along with regular use of material handling equipment such as hand trucks and pallet jacks. Work involves handling physical loads within defined weight limits and using technology such as inventory management systems, handheld scanners, and standard Windows and Microsoft Office applications. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety procedures, Good Document Practices, and consistent quality standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Franklin, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
