Recycling Operations Manager - Metal Recycling - Base Salary to 175k/year - Boston, MA
- Our client is seeking an experienced Recycling Operations Manager to oversee production, safety, equipment, inventory, budgeting, and facility performance within a high-volume metal recycling operation. This position manages scrap metal processing, material handling, heavy equipment operations, and production teams while coordinating with Maintenance, Commercial, and Transportation departments to achieve operational and financial objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily scrap metal recycling operations, including stockpiling, fixed and mobile shearing, torching, baling, material handling, loading, and scale operations.
- Recruit, train, and manage production employees, supervisors, and operational work crews.
- Manage production schedules, staffing levels, labor productivity, and operational performance across multiple shifts.
- Develop and monitor production plans, throughput targets, processing volumes, and monthly operational projections.
- Coordinate scrap metal sorting, processing, preparation, grading, and shipment of ferrous and nonferrous materials as applicable.
- Monitor production KPIs, equipment utilization, inventory levels, processing backlogs, and operating costs.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs, downtime, capital improvement projects, and equipment upgrades with Maintenance personnel.
- Manage operational budgets, capital expenditures, labor costs, and production efficiency.
- Partner with Commercial and Transportation teams to coordinate material flow, customer specifications, shipping schedules, and inventory requirements.
- Maintain inventory controls, material quality standards, and accurate operational documentation.
- Identify production inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement, cost reduction, and corrective action initiatives.
- Oversee OSHA compliance, workplace safety programs, environmental requirements, standard operating procedures, inspections, and employee safety training.
- Coordinate facility security and operational regulatory compliance.
- Analyze operational metrics and implement improvements to production output, equipment reliability, safety, and overall facility performance.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of industrial, recycling, metal processing, or comparable heavy industrial experience.
- 2+ years of management experience leading production teams or work crews.
- Experience managing high-volume industrial, manufacturing, recycling, or metal processing operations.
- Knowledge of industrial production processes, mechanical systems, and heavy equipment operations.
- Experience overseeing heavy equipment maintenance, repairs, equipment upgrades, or capital improvement projects.
- Demonstrated experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives and measurable operational improvements.
- Experience managing production metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), operational budgets, and capital expenditures.
- Knowledge of OSHA, industrial workplace safety, environmental compliance, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work in an active industrial yard environment and oversee operations across multiple shifts as needed.
- Ability to travel for job-related operational needs and meet applicable company driving requirements.
Compensation:
- Base salary in the 140k - 170k/year range
