Canyon Ranch is seeking an experienced Executive Sous Chef to help lead the day-to-day culinary operations of our Lenox property. In this role, you’ll partner closely with the Executive Chef to oversee kitchen operations, ensure exceptional food quality and presentation, develop and coach the culinary team, and support the financial and operational success of the department. Responsibilities
WHAT YOU'LL DO AS A CANYON RANCH COLLEAGUE:
- Lead the development, preparation, production, and presentation of food across our Food & Beverage outlets and related areas.
- Partner with the Executive Chef to manage daily kitchen operations and support the overall success of the culinary department.
- Train, coach, and develop culinary colleagues on established Culinary Standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Create a culture of accountability by providing feedback, coaching, counseling, and taking corrective action when necessary.
- Maintain high standards for food safety, sanitation, kitchen cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
- Promote and execute safety practices and the Accident Prevention Program to support a safe work environment.
- Create efficient staff schedules that align with guest needs and business demands.
- Support food and beverage purchasing and contribute to responsible management of departmental resources.
- Help ensure budgetary requirements are met through effective operational and financial decision-making.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Executive Chef in their absence.
- Build strong, collaborative working relationships with colleagues across all levels of the organization.
- Consistently demonstrate Canyon Ranch service standards and Ethos principles with both colleagues and guests.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- 3+ years of previous experience in a culinary leadership role or related field.
- Associate degree, two-year equivalent specialized training, or equivalent relevant experience.
- ServSafe Manager Certification within six months of employment.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and managing culinary teams.
- Strong people-management skills with a track record of motivating, developing, and enhancing team performance.
- Knowledge of food and beverage purchasing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical-thinking, judgment, organizational, planning, listening, and time-management skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions, solve problems, and provide thoughtful recommendations.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across all levels of an organization.
- Highly collaborative and action-oriented approach to leadership.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety and quality.
- Ability to work varied shifts and schedules in a production-based kitchen environment.
- Ability to regularly lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work a flexible and open schedule, including weekends and holidays.
