Job Description

VP Operations / General Manager – Precision Manufacturing

Greater Boston Area

A privately held precision manufacturing company in the Greater Boston area is hiring a VP of Operations / General Manager to lead the business through its next phase of growth.

This is a true end-to-end leadership role for someone who enjoys running the whole operation, not managing layers. You’ll own execution today while shaping the future of the business - strengthening operations, developing talent, deepening customer relationships, and driving profitable, disciplined growth.

Why This Role

This opportunity is ideal for a leader who thrives in technically demanding, smaller manufacturing environments and wants real ownership.

The business operates with a lean, highly skilled team producing precision-engineered components for demanding customers. With new investment and growth initiatives underway, the company is ready for a leader who can bring structure, clarity, and momentum—without disrupting the craftsmanship and culture that already exist.

If you prefer building systems, leading from the floor, and seeing the direct impact of your decisions, this role offers rare scope and visibility.

What You’ll Own

As VP Operations / General Manager, you will have full responsibility for the business. You’ll work directly with ownership and lead daily operations while driving longer-term strategy.

You’ll be equally comfortable setting direction and rolling up your sleeves, earning credibility with the team, and turning strong technical capability into a scalable, high-performing operation.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Operational Leadership

  • Modernize and streamline manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, throughput, and quality
  • Align production, engineering, scheduling, and quality into a cohesive operating rhythm
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a safe, disciplined, well-organized facility
  • Evaluate and prioritize capital investments to support growth and operational readiness

Business & Financial Leadership

  • Own full P&L responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
  • Strengthen pricing discipline and margin performance
  • Use data and operational insight to guide profitable growth decisions
  • Partner closely with ownership on long-term strategy and investment planning

Customer & Commercial Engagement

  • Act as a visible, credible leader with customers and industry partners
  • Support quoting, technical discussions, customer visits, and capability presentations
  • Grow existing accounts while identifying and developing new business opportunities

People & Culture

  • Lead and develop a skilled workforce that includes long-tenured employees and emerging talent
  • Build a culture grounded in accountability, communication, and continuous improvement
  • Clarify roles, expectations, and decision-making across the organization
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop future leaders as the business scales

What We’re Looking For

You bring both strategic perspective and a hands-on leadership style. You’re comfortable being close to the work, making decisions, and driving results in an environment where leadership presence matters.

Ideal Background

  • 10+ years of operational leadership in precision, engineered, or industrial manufacturing
  • Proven success leading small to mid-sized manufacturing operations
  • Strong understanding of production workflows, quality systems, and continuous improvement
  • Experience owning P&L and improving EBITDA through operational and commercial execution
  • Customer-facing credibility with the ability to engage on both technical and business topics
  • Clear, direct communicator who builds trust across teams
  • Self-directed leader who thrives with autonomy and accountability

Compensation & Upside

  • Base salary: $150,000–$180,000
  • Additional compensation: Annual performance bonus plus long-term incentive potential
  • Total compensation is aligned with responsibility, impact, and experience
