Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Designer / Mechanical Drafter

Job Description

This role focuses on documenting and supporting the assembly, commissioning, and scale-up of novel manufacturing equipment used to produce high-performance thermal components and cooling loop solutions for AI, high-performance computing, semiconductor equipment, power electronics, and defense systems. You will work closely with engineering and production teams to model complex electromechanical systems, design mechanical components and subassemblies, and contribute to improved machine performance, system reliability, and ease of assembly as the organization scales its Stack Forging™ thermal solutions platform. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented manufacturing professional who takes pride in high-quality drawings and 3D models and thrives in a collaborative, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain CAD parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks while strictly following company procedures for documentation and configuration management.
  • Maintain and update detailed documentation of assembly processes, procedures, and machine or process issues as needed to support commissioning and scale-up activities.
  • Prepare accurate and complete bills of materials (BOMs) for mechanical assemblies and subsystems to ensure smooth manufacturing and assembly operations.
  • Produce detailed part and assembly drawings utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards and internal guidelines.
  • Assist with CAD library management, including hardware, standard parts, and configurations, to keep design assets organized and accessible.
  • Record and track relevant data using internal tools to support traceability, quality, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support the migration and restructuring of legacy drawings and CAD data into current systems and standards.
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers to understand design requirements and constraints, and actively participate in design reviews related to the design, manufacturing, and assembly of complex mechanical systems.
  • Provide constructive feedback to aid in continuous improvement of designs, processes, and documentation practices.
  • Collaborate with machine design and process engineers to document and support changes to machines, correct bills of material, and resolve assembly challenges.
  • Communicate effectively between design engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain to ensure alignment and smooth implementation of design changes.
  • Take ownership of assigned systems and documentation, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and with strong attention to detail.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience using SolidWorks to create 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and ability to create detailed manufacturing drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Experience working with Product Data Management (PDM) systems and document/configuration control processes.
  • Experience managing drawing revisions through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) or similar change management systems.
  • Associates degree or technical certification in Mechanical Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated history of completing tasks efficiently and effectively with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with design engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
  • Proficiency in creating, updating, and maintaining technical documentation for mechanical assemblies and processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with vacuum systems, laser equipment, hydraulic systems, machine tools, or robotics.
  • Experience and knowledge in metrology and inspection methods.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet software for data tracking and analysis.
  • Experience working with sheet metal components, CNC machined parts, pneumatic systems, and prototyping in a manufacturing environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong sense of workmanship and ownership over systems and documentation assigned.
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring diagrams and basic electrical schematics.
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, hands-on environment with a culture that encourages open communication and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role that requires a commitment of four days per week at the facility. You will work closely with engineering, production, and process teams in a manufacturing environment focused on novel thermal management and Stack Forging™ equipment. The workplace emphasizes collaboration, open communication, and a sleeves-rolled-up mentality, with no silos and a strong culture of thinking out loud and solving problems together. Standard benefits are offered, including paid time off of approximately three weeks and company holidays. You will regularly use SolidWorks, PDM systems, internal tracking tools, and various manufacturing technologies such as sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, pneumatic systems, and potentially vacuum, laser, hydraulic, machine tools, and robotics as part of daily work.
