About the Opportunity

\n

We are seeking an experienced Lead Derivatives Accountant to join our Investment Accounting team and serve as a technical leader overseeing the accounting and analysis of a complex derivatives and investment portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with deep expertise in derivatives, investment accounting, GAAP, and Statutory accounting who enjoys solving complex accounting issues and partnering across the organization.

In this role, you will lead key close and reporting activities, provide technical accounting guidance, and oversee two direct reports. You will work closely with Investment Operations, Treasury, Financial Reporting, Tax, Actuarial, Internal Audit, auditors, and external service providers to ensure accurate accounting, valuation, reconciliation, and reporting.

What You'll Do

\n

    \n
  • Lead the accounting and monthly/quarterly close processes for swaps, futures, forwards, options, and other derivative and hedging instruments
  • \n

  • Analyze complex derivative and investment transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting
  • \n

  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, investment schedules, and supporting documentation
  • \n

  • Conduct technical accounting research and document conclusions related to new and complex investment transactions
  • \n

  • Lead, coach, and mentor two direct reports, providing technical guidance, prioritization, and professional development
  • \n

  • Analyze investment and derivative results, including valuation changes, realized and unrealized gains and losses, and hedge-related activity
  • \n

  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve accounting, valuation, and operational issues
  • \n

  • Support quarterly and annual financial reporting, including investment and derivative disclosures and schedules
  • \n

  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors
  • \n

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased efficiency across the Investment Accounting function
  • \n

  • Lead strategic and cross-functional projects impacting investment accounting, reporting, and systems
  • \n

What We're Looking For

\n

    \n
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • \n

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in investments, derivatives, or complex financial instruments
  • \n

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting, particularly derivative accounting and reporting
  • \n

  • Hands-on experience with swaps, futures, forwards, options, and hedging transactions
  • \n

  • Strong experience with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • \n

  • Proven ability to review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, accounting analyses, and supporting schedules
  • \n

  • Excellent technical accounting research and documentation skills
  • \n

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to leadership, auditors, and cross-functional partners
  • \n

  • Experience leading accounting projects, process improvements, or system enhancements
  • \n

  • Prior experience coaching, mentoring, or managing accounting professionals; direct management experience preferred
  • \n

  • Exposure to financial statements, footnote disclosures, and audit support preferred
  • \n

  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred
  • \n

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • \n
