Position Overview
Our small size Membrane Research and Development team, focused on development of new products, optimization of existing products and providing technical expertise to multiple teams, is looking for a chemical technician. An employee in this role, reporting to the team Sr. Scientist will conduct various activities related to membrane development and manufacturing, and will then summarize, present and clearly communicate results and findings.
As a team member the technician will perform developmental hands-on work in laboratory and occasionally on the Manufacturing floor, interacting within the R&D team and with other teams.
The chemical technician will use various analytical instruments, including a state-of-the-art Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
Responsibilities
Typical activities include:
- Operate analytical instruments to test current and developmental MF/UF/NF/RO membranes.
- Work with the team on new membrane development.
- Record and maintain R&D experiment details, test procedures and results. Develop new procedures as required and submit internal reports on various activities.
- Operate Lab scale and bench-scale equipment.
- Work under supervising for new protocol development and scale up processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Addresses scheduled downtimes, plans for and responds to service outages and other problems.
- Provides support and/or coverage to meet queue needs based on department needs and team availability.
- Weekend / outside hour availability may be required.
Qualifications:

- Requirements:
- Associate degree in chemistry or a related discipline, or proven experience working in chemical reaction processes, or chemical labs, using analytical instruments with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively within the team to other teams.
- Be able to wear a half or full-face mask respirator and lift 20 pounds when required.
- Effectively communicate on assignment priorities to the supervisor and team members.
- Organize work and manage your own time while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
- MS Office computer skills, including Excel, Power Point and Access to input. Analyze, report and present the data and conclusions.
- What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience with manufacturing, development or/and characterization of synthetic polymeric membranes/filters is preferred, including chemical process development experience.
- Self-motivation, ability to execute technical tasks and projects with minimal supervision. Initiative and creativity, eagerness in development of new methods, procedures advanced instrument troubleshooting.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and in proximity to loud equipment.
- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to see and respond to at-risk situations.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear when in industrial locations.
- Must be able sit for longer periods of time as well as move about throughout the office and production, / laboratory environment.
