Job DescriptionThe Director of Finance & Operations is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring financial sustainability, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making at DetecTogether. This role will oversee finance, organizational processes, impact measurement, and operations for the signature fundraising event. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who is equally comfortable building processes and rolling up their sleeves to execute them. They are detail-oriented, forward-looking, and skilled at collaborating across teams to drive organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Finance & Compliance

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, grant requirements, and financial policies.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, accountants, and legal advisors as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and financial efficiency.

Operations & Process Optimization

  • Lead process mapping initiatives to document and streamline workflows.
  • Develop and formalize standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support training, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Ensure smooth internal operations by improving administrative systems and policies.
  • Support HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, and employee performance systems.
  • Balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution, ensuring processes are not only designed but implemented effectively.

Fundraising Event Operations

  • Manage event budgets, oversee logistics and timelines, and help coordinate efforts across DetecTogether’s strong and collaborative team to ensure successful execution and strong ROI.
  • Partner with development staff, volunteers, and leadership to support seamless planning and execution of the Gala and Golf Tournament, two of the organization’s most important fundraising events.
  • Develop and document efficient processes for event planning and follow-up, making it easier for the team to replicate and improve each year.
  • Provide operational and financial insights that help the team maximize fundraising results while maintaining a positive, team-driven approach.
  • Train and support staff in adopting new technologies.

Strategic Project Management & Execution

  • Support project management of the organization’s strategic plan using Asana or similar tools.
  • Work cross-functionally to track progress, ensure accountability, and drive results.
  • Identify operational challenges and propose solutions to improve efficiency.

Technology & Innovation

  • Stay current on emerging technology and AI applications that can improve efficiency, data management, and reporting.
  • Collaborate to identify and implement tools and systems that strengthen organizational capacity (e.g., CRM, project management platforms, financial systems).

Impact Measurement & Data Analytics

  • Develop and implement procedures for collecting program impact data through surveys and external sources.
  • Partner with brokers, employers, and stakeholders to access claims data and measure the impact of programs.
  • Analyze pre- and post-program training data to assess effectiveness and inform strategy.
  • Provide data insights to leadership and board members for informed decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, operations management, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in finance, operations, or project management, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Experience with process mapping, SOP development, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Strong project management skills with experience using Asana, Monday.com, or similar tools.
  • Ability to analyze and leverage claims data, survey results, and impact metrics.
  • Demonstrated experience in event operations and budget management.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and AI applications for nonprofit operations preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

Work Location: This is a hybrid position based in Westborough, MA, with 2 days remote and 3 days in-office each week.
