Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Shift Manager to oversee operations in our food manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the assembly line processes, ensuring that production goals are met while maintaining safety and quality standards. This role requires strong leadership skills and a solid understanding of mechanical operations within a factory setting.
Position summary:
The person who holds this position is expected to ensure employee safety, food safety, product quality and asset performance while delivering on time the shift/line/area production plan. You will assist in leading a team of varying size, but typically no more than 30 employees. Leadership of people may include participating in employee on-boarding, performance evaluation and management, and enforcing company policy. Collaboration with other groups on site (Quality, Maintenance, Packaging, etc.) to ensure that your area and people are fully aligned with the organizational objectives is important. You will need to be able to create a model that perpetuates a workplace culture that engages and motivates associates at all levels and focuses them on results to deliver success as measured by key performance metrics.
Primary responsibilities:Ensure a safe work environment at all times, which may include creating or updating work instructions, and will include enforcement of SOP’s, SSOP’s and other documentation
- Ensure quality objectives are met including regular adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s). Perform various audits, food safety and/or product quality checks to make sure associates comply with policies and programs. Actively participate in prevention and correction of quality-related errors
- Provide coaching and feedback to employees so they know what is expected and can strive to meet and exceed the requirements of the job
- Participate in Daily Operation Review as a process owner as assigned by Production Manager. Ensure the development and implementation of action plans to address root causes of failures and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure critical limits are understood by associates and manage compliance to those limits
- Ensure ongoing smooth operations of factory through effective employee and industrial relations management
- Ensure adequate distribution of talent and skill on the shop floor so all areas can achieve more output
- Ensure associates have the tools needed to do their job – equipment, tools, training, etc.
- Review and sign daily compliance paperwork
Requirements and minimum education level:
1-2 years of supervisory/management experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Work extended days and/or weekends with flexibility to switch shifts as required
Willing to work in a factory where ambient conditions may be extremely cold, wet or warm
General knowledge of process flows in manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience:
Experience in food processing or packaging
Experience in sanitation
Experience in Quality and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP’s) in a food processing environment.
Experience in Continuous Performance environment that can be quantified
Bilingual
Skills:
· Ability to maintain a safe working environment through proper housekeeping and safety practices
· Excellent communication skills (oral, written and listening). Ability to adjust communication style to multiple audiences, facilitate group coaching, and information sharing. Ability to positively confront and effectively deal with noncompliance through effective “soft Skills”. Ability to write effective Performance Evaluations.
· Excellent people skills – maintain a positive attitude and ability to motivate people, specifically mentoring and coaching individuals in identifying short- and long-term development needs and providing appropriate support.
· Confidence in own capacity and judgment. Be willing to face challenging situations. Develop ability to build personal relationships based on trust, mutual respect and open communication.
· Adaptable – ability to adjust approach to match varied task requirements, adjust behavior to others’ styles, change priorities to meet changing demands, adjust quickly to new responsibilities and tasks.
· Ability to run multiple priorities at one time through highly developed organizational skills.
· Ability to set effective and meaningful objectives.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting through root cause problem solving.
· High energy level and excellent follow-up
· Intermediate level computer skills and aptitude to learn and understand company ERP
