Job Description
Job DescriptionAbout Pendar Technologies
Pendar Technologies designs and manufactures advanced chemical analysis instruments for mission-critical applications, delivering reliable answers in challenging environments. Our products are trusted by first responders, defense agencies, and research laboratories to provide rapid and accurate chemical intelligence. We are a small, highly technical team that emphasizes scientific rigor and engineering excellence to deliver effective, application-specific solutions.
You:
- Have shipped hardware before and understand what it takes to bring real products to life.
- Are comfortable working across design, testing, troubleshooting, and production.
- Prefer a small team where hands-on contribution and technical excellence are expected.
- Approach problems pragmatically rather than dogmatically and engage constructively in technical discussions.
- Are organized, resourceful, and motivated by technical challenges.
The Role
As an Electrical Systems Engineer reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead key aspects of electrical design and development for our existing products and next-generation instruments.
Today, you will…
- Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits for new product development.
- Create schematics and guide or perform PCB layout as needed.
- Bring up new boards, run benchtop tests, and iterate rapidly on prototypes.
- Integrate sensors, processors, and electromechanical subsystems into cohesive designs.
- Support production through troubleshooting and test-fixture development.
- Evaluate critical components that influence system architecture.
In six months, you will have…
- Taken ownership of major electrical subsystems on at least one active product.
- Built strong working relationships with mechanical, optical, software, and ops teams.
- Delivered improvements to existing products.
- Helped resolve supply chain or component-related constraints and qualified new vendors.
- Become a reliable contributor in design reviews and cross-functional integration efforts.
In one year, you will have…
- Led electrical design efforts through a full development cycle on a significant subsystem.
- Delivered board designs or subsystem updates now in production.
- Established yourself as a key problem-solver for complex electrical or system-level challenges.
- Played a significant role in advancing a next-generation instrument toward release.
Location and Additional information
- This is a full-time position, fully on-site in Cambridge, MA, accessible by car, bike, and bus.
- Competitive benefits include healthcare, dental, vision, and matching 401k.
