About the Position:
The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) is expanding its team in the Boston area and is seeking a talented Scientist to join the Drug Discovery team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to early pre-clinical drug discovery projects in addition to basic research with a focus on protein biochemistry. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in protein expression and purification, biophysics, molecular biology, and structural biology and a passion for advancing scientific discovery in this lab-based role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research Support: Under the guidance of Senior Scientist, Drug Discovery, you will collaboratively, and independently design and execute experiments, analyze experimental data, and present findings to both internal teams and external collaborators to support a range of research projects.
- Collaborative Research: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to drive scientific discoveries. You will contribute to advancing our protein biochemistry efforts and engage in cutting-edge translational and basic research projects.
- Method Development: Utilize your expertise to optimize and establish experimental protocols for expression and purification of a variety of interesting target proteins in large scales, supporting biophysical and biochemical assays, protein biochemistry and structural biology.
Required Qualifications:
· Education: Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Biochemistry or a related scientific discipline.
· Experience: 0–3 years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience.
· Laboratory Expertise: Demonstrated interest and aptitude for hands-on laboratory research, particularly in protein production, biochemistry, and biophysics.
· Collaboration & Independence: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Technical Expertise:
- Protein Biochemistry: Deep expertise in protein expression and purification of soluble and membrane proteins, biochemical assay development, western blotting, structure elucidation of potential hits
- Biophysics: Binding assay involving any/many of the instruments including SPR, ITC, MST, BLI, fluorescence polarization
- Molecular Biology: Recombinant DNA cloning, mutagenesis, PCR, Gibson assembly
- Software Proficiency: Experience with AlphaFold, Pymol, ChimeraX, GraphPad PRISM, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator and Python.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large-scale protein expression using bacterial, insect, and/or mammalian systems, including purification with ÄKTA FPLC.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, including stable cell line development.
- Experience determining protein structures using X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-electron microscopy.
- Advanced expertise with SPR instrumentation.
- Record of peer-reviewed publications or significant scientific contributions.
Salary Range: $95,000 – 110,000 USD per year.
The salary range listed represents IOCB Boston’s good faith estimate for this position and is based on factors including, but not limited to, education, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data. Final compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
