Job Description

Position Summary

Henke Sass Wolf of America (HSWOA) is seeking a hands-on, multidisciplinary engineer responsible for the technical integration and ongoing sustainment of newly acquired service-and-repair businesses into the HSWOA network. This role designs and implements fixtures, processes, equipment, automation, and software tools that enable consistent quality, throughput, and compliance across sites. The engineer acts as a bridge between HSWOA Engineering and the local teams at acquired facilities.

The ideal candidate possesses superior problem-solving skills, is detail- and process-oriented, and demonstrates excellent collaboration skills. Key deliverables include driving improvements and sustaining metrics for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost across both existing and new product lines. This position is primarily located on-site in Dudley, MA with regular travel to international locations.

Key Essential Functions

  • Support planning and execution of technical integration roadmaps for each acquisition, including process mapping, gap assessments, standard work definition, and harmonization to HSWOA standards.
  • Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting support for acquired facilities, including guidance on HSWOA processes, tools, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Facilitate handoffs during integrations; ensure adoption of standard work and effective change control.
  • Collaborate with Corporate R&D and HSW sites to industrialize new products and implement design changes for manufacturability at service/repair sites.
  • Design and develop manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and equipment. Document processes via work instructions and train teams to standards.
  • Support ECOs from generation through implementation, ensuring smooth design transfer.
  • Design, develop, and qualify tools, fixtures, and machinery to enable safe, reliable, and efficient production.
  • Participate in fixture design reviews; develop poka-yoke and fixturing strategies to reduce process variation.
  • Procure tooling for production and oversee preventive maintenance of custom equipment.
  • Support automation and computer vision initiatives (robotics, controls, machine vision, software tools).
  • Actively participate in and adhere to HSWOA’s Tollgate process, ensuring structured project execution, documentation, and reviews for major engineering initiatives.
  • Configure and operate GUI‑driven tools (HMI/SCADA screens, machine‑vision UIs, MES dashboards) to monitor processes, collect data, and document changes; escalate to controls specialists when advanced programming is required.
  • Act as customer advocate when addressing quality issues by driving root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of existing custom equipment; provide remote and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Resolve production issues at acquired sites through hands-on technical support.
  • Develop and implement process improvements focused on cycle time reduction, cost savings, and waste elimination.
  • Author and execute IQ/OQ/PQ protocols; ensure adherence to FDA, GMP, and safety requirements.
  • Generate technical documentation: qualification records, DFM/DFA, Verification/Validation, SOPs, training materials, and technical reports.
  • Establish part/system traceability requirements and support record maintenance.
  • Train operators, technicians, and engineers across multiple sites in the use of tools, fixtures, and processes.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and consistent application of engineering best practices across acquired facilities.
  • 30–50% travel to acquired facilities; international travel as needed (e.g., Brazil, Germany) for collaboration and technology transfer.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years in manufacturing/process development, sustaining engineering, or industrial automation (medical device/regulated industry preferred).
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and fixture/tooling design.
  • Hands-on prototyping (3D printing, CNC machining, shop tools).
  • Comfort using GUI‑based tools (e.g., HMI screens, vision-system interfaces, MES/ERP dashboards, equipment configuration software) to operate, configure, or monitor processes—no advanced programming required.
  • Foundational understanding of automation systems, including sensors, actuators, and basic PLC concepts. Ability to support or modify simple code/scripts (e.g., C++, Python) to troubleshoot or improve equipment behavior.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity, organization, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years integrating new manufacturing lines, sites, or acquisitions.
  • Experience developing standard work across multiple locations.
  • Robotics and automation expertise (selection, configuration, programming, HMI design).
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows (i.e., version control for automation scripts, test utilities, or configuration files) and secure deployment in Windows-based environments.
  • Lean/Kaizen experience.

Compensation & Other Benefits

  • $85,000 - $105,000 annually. This range represents the amount the company reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for this role. Final compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus.
  • Henke Sass Wolf of America offers a competitive selection of benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurances, 401k retirement savings plans, paid time off, and other voluntary benefits.
