Fabrication Shop Lead Technician

We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Shop Lead Technician to oversee daily shop operations, lead production teams, and support high-quality fabrication work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for someone with strong technical fabrication expertise, supervisory experience, and a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
This position serves as a critical bridge between production, engineering, and management while helping drive efficiency, mentorship, and on-time project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Shop Oversight
- Supervise, train, and mentor fabrication technicians and shop personnel
- Assign daily workloads and manage project priorities to meet production schedules
- Provide hands-on leadership while fostering a collaborative, accountable team environment
- Support employee development through coaching and cross-training
Production & Fabrication Operations
- Review blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings to guide fabrication and assembly work
- Oversee daily production activities to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule
- Perform and support complex fabrication tasks including welding, cutting, assembly, and machine operation
- Operate and maintain shop equipment including welding machines, CNC machinery, shears, press brakes, and saws
Quality Control
- Perform and oversee quality inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions as needed
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and continuous improvement
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA standards, shop safety procedures, and proper PPE usage
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and operating safely
Inventory & Resource Management
- Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and supplies
- Coordinate purchasing needs with management and project teams
- Support efficient resource planning to minimize downtime
Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience in metal fabrication, welding, assembly, or manufacturing
- Previous lead, supervisory, or shop management experience
- Strong ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
- Hands-on experience with fabrication equipment and shop machinery
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and maintain production schedules
- Strong problem-solving and leadership skills
Preferred:
- CNC, welding, or advanced fabrication expertise
- Experience in quality control and process improvement
- Knowledge of OSHA and manufacturing safety standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to work in an active shop/manufacturing environment
