Job Description


The Cook for Sunset Point Camp is responsible for preparing and providing meals for campers and staff during the program season. The Cook orders food for special diets and cleans/ organizing the kitchen and appliances. The cook is responsible for and maintaining daily meal counts and food forms for billing and audits and for supervising kitchen assistants that help prepare nutritious meal and snacks for campers and camp staff.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Always maintain professional boundaries. Present self in mature and responsible manner.
  • Manage all aspects of food service for residential camp.
  • Supervise and coordinate the kitchen staff, work independently and as a team.
  • Work with administrative staff for camp menu planning, plan weekly menu for up to 100 people Sunday through Friday.
  • Place food orders in accordance with budget in a timely manner.
  • Prepare all meals as scheduled or assigned by the Camp Director. Post menus daily.
  • Check in all food/supply orders upon arrival and rotate stock.
  • Complete Department of Education (DOE) daily meal forms.
  • Follow Board of Health best practice pertaining to safe food practice and perform a thorough daily cleaning of kitchen food preparation and delivery areas.
  • Work with Board of Health Food inspectors to ensure compliance.
  • Document staff and campers’ food allergies and food related disease. Ensure meals are planned for safe consumption to individuals with food allergies including gluten free and vegetarian diets.
  • Clean kitchen in accordance with Department of Health regulations at all times. Sanitize surfaces throughout the day.
  • Wash hands frequently while working in accordance with Department of Health regulations.
  • Assist in weekly deep cleaning of kitchen areas including but not limited to floors, vent hoods, trash receptacles, refrigeration units and shelves.
  • Report kitchen related accidents or injuries immediately to the Camp Director.
  • Work is performed at an overnight camp environment with children and adults. May be exposed to high degree of temperatures without air-conditioning. Standing, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying to 30 pounds. Daily use of stoves, culinary utensils, indoor/outdoor grills, kitchen appliances and related kitchen supplies.
  • Work is accomplished inside and outside in summer heat.
  • Attendance at supervision and staff meetings.
  • Related responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age with 2 years’ experience cooking and serving over 100 meals daily. Prior oversight of kitchen staff preferable.
  • Knowledge of food related allergies and ingredients that cause food allergies.
  • Current ServSafe Food Handler and ServeSafe Allergen Certification.
  • Current First Aid/CPR /AED certification.
  • Knowledge of DOE nutritional guidelines for latency age youth.
  • Ability to stand, stretch, push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Able to perform work in seasonal summer climate that includes high degree of temperatures without air conditioning.
  • Ability to stand and move about for long periods of time.
  • Able to work with cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.

The base pay range reflects what Catholic Charities reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation in this range may be determined based on other factors, including but not limited to work experience, education and specialty training.
