Role Summary

This is a newly created Design Quality Engineer position supporting the design and development of aerospace-grade electrical connectors in a regulated manufacturing environment. The primary purpose of this role is to serve as a key quality resource for both Engineering and Sales teams—ensuring customer requirements are clearly understood and that new product proposals are feasible, manufacturable, and compliant before being presented externally.

Historically, design teams have been pushed to deliver proposals quickly, sometimes resulting in designs that were not practical to manufacture or execute. This role is intended to prevent those issues by strengthening design assurance, improving upfront feasibility, and ensuring connector solutions meet high reliability and performance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Design, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Test Engineering) to integrate quality into the connector design process
  • Lead and support DFMEA activities and assist with PFMEA efforts for new and existing connector products
  • Create qualification plans and support environmental/mechanical testing aligned with customer and industry standards
  • Drive root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) tied to design-related nonconformities
  • Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and compliance documentation in alignment with AS9102 and customer requirements
  • Participate in design reviews to confirm compliance with internal and external standards
  • Develop and maintain quality plans, control plans, and inspection instructions specific to connector applications
  • Interface with customers and suppliers on technical quality topics, including issue resolution and audit participation
  • Monitor validation metrics (reliability results, defect trends, test coverage) and recommend continuous improvement actions
  • Support additional quality initiatives as assigned by leadership

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Design Engineering (open to strong candidates with ~2 years)
  • Experience supporting electromechanical components such as connectors (industry background flexible, but durable manufacturing experience is required)
  • Strong understanding of AS9100 / AS9102 standards and aerospace-style quality systems
  • Working knowledge of quality tools: FMEA, 8D, 5 Whys, SPC, MSA (APQP/PPAP exposure preferred)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings (GD&T), specifications, and electrical schematics
  • Hands-on understanding of environmental/mechanical testing (thermal cycling, vibration, mating cycles, etc.)
  • Strong communication, organization, and project coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting connectors used in harsh or demanding environments
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) or equivalent quality credential

Additional Requirement

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident due to compliance requirements (regulated environment)
