Job Description Intellectual Property Associate – Chemistry
Direct Counsel represents an AmLaw 100 firm seeking a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate with 3–5 years of post-JD experience to join its sophisticated IP practice. This position may be based in Boston, Denver, New York, Palo Alto, or Washington, DC.
The attorney will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge patent prosecution and litigation matters involving chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and other innovative technologies.
Responsibilities
- Handle sophisticated patent prosecution and litigation matters.
- Advise clients on patent portfolio management, development, and patentability.
- Conduct competitive landscape analyses and develop intellectual property strategies.
- Work with clients across the chemistry, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries.
- Collaborate with experienced attorneys and clients on complex IP matters.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of post-JD experience with substantial experience in both patent prosecution and litigation.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Ph.D. in Chemistry required; Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry strongly preferred.
- Experience working with patents involving chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.
- Knowledge of patent portfolio management, patent development, competitive landscape analysis, and patentability.
- Admission to practice before the USPTO.
- Active state bar admission and membership in good standing in the jurisdiction where the attorney will be based (MA, NY, CA, CO, or DC).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
