JOB SUMMARY:
The Dry Blending Machine Operator at Polyvinyl Films Inc. is responsible for operating and maintaining dry blending machinery used in the production of blown plastic films. The operator will ensure the accurate mixing of raw materials (resins, additives, colorants) to meet production specifications while adhering to safety, quality, and environmental standards. The role also involves routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control of the blended material before it moves into the extrusion process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate dry blending machines to mix various raw materials (e.g., plastic resins, additives, colorants) according to production schedules and specifications.
- Adjust machine settings, such as speed, temperature, and blending times, to meet the specific requirements of each batch.
- Monitor the blending process to ensure consistent material quality, blending uniformity, and adherence to specifications.
- Load raw materials into the blending machines in the correct proportions as per the established formulas.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor issues with machine malfunctions, blending inconsistencies, or material problems.
- Work closely with other production teams (e.g., extrusion and quality control) to ensure that blended materials are processed efficiently and meet quality standards.
ESSENTIALS JOB DUTIES:
- Ensure that materials are stored and handled safely to prevent contamination or material degradation.
- Maintain an inventory of raw materials and notify the supervisor when stock levels are low.
- Perform regular checks on the blended materials to ensure they meet the required quality standards for thickness, consistency, and appearance.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members about any challenges or improvements in the blending process.
- Collect and document samples for testing in accordance with quality control procedures.
- Work closely with the quality control team to verify the accuracy of blends and troubleshoot any discrepancies.
- Address any quality issues or deviations in the blending process and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance on the blending machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and part replacement.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including proper handling of chemicals and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
- Ensure that all machines are in good working condition to minimize downtime and production delays.
- Ensure that the work environment is clean, safe, and organized in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills with a solid understanding of blending machine operation.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions and work efficiently under minimal supervision.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail, especially regarding material quality and machine operation.
- Familiarity with blown film extrusion processes and related production systems.
- Knowledge of plastic material properties and blending formulations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or vocational training in manufacturing or machine operation is a plus.
- Previous experience in machine operation, particularly in the plastic manufacturing industry, preferred.
- Experience with dry blending equipment, plastic resins, and additives is highly desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle raw materials.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Capable of working with machinery, noise, dust and temperature fluctuations in a production environment.
