Job Description

Job DescriptionAbout the Role

Picture your day beginning with a blueprint review, inspecting specs and tolerances before you head to the toolroom. You’ll set up manual or CNC equipment, machine components to tight tolerances, verify every surface and angle, and then walk the tooling to a rolling or forming line so production can stay on schedule. When a die shows wear or a punch fails, you’ll diagnose the root cause, implement a corrective action, and document the repair—keeping our clad metal operations running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, refurbish, modify, and sustain dies, punches, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and related production tooling.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work instructions with accuracy.
  • Operate manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, drills, and surface grinders to produce and finish components.
  • Measure, verify, and qualify parts using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators.
  • Diagnose tooling problems, determine root causes of wear or failure, and recommend/execute corrective actions.
  • Support clad metal processes—forming, rolling, trimming, cutting, and finishing—by providing precise tooling and timely assistance.
  • Perform changeovers, make adjustments, and troubleshoot alongside production and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain tooling histories, repair documentation, and component inventory.
  • Keep the toolroom organized; uphold plant safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
  • Apply lockout/tagout and other required procedures when working on equipment.
  • Communicate status, risks, and recommendations to supervisors and affected teams.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a toolmaking, machining, or mechanical trade program preferred.
  • Background as a toolmaker, die maker, machinist, or maintenance machinist in manufacturing.
  • Fluency in reading technical drawings and using precision measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of machining practices, materials, tolerances, fits, and tool upkeep.
  • Hands-on experience with manual machine tools; CNC machining experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset.

Work Setting & Physical Demands

  • Manufacturing plant and toolroom environment with noise, moving equipment, and temperature variation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and handle tools or components, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

How Success Is Measured

  • Tooling is repaired and delivered accurately and on time.
  • Reduced tool-related downtime and fewer repeat failures.
  • Work consistently meets drawing, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Complete, clear documentation and orderly work areas.
