Job DescriptionAutomation & MES Engineer (GMP Environment)Overview

We are seeking an Automation & MES Engineer to support and lead automation and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) initiatives within a GMP-regulated environment. This role blends technical hands-on work, project leadership, and cross-functional coordination, with responsibility for delivering compliant automation solutions using SDLC and validation best practices.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable owning automation or MES projects end to end—working closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, IT, and vendors to deliver reliable, compliant systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support automation and MES projects, including planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Provide hands-on automation and controls engineering support for GMP manufacturing operations.
  • Manage projects using SDLC and validation best practices, ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Develop, review, and execute validation documentation and protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, including Manufacturing, Quality, IT, and external vendors.
  • Support issue resolution, continuous improvement, and system optimization for automation and MES platforms.

Required Capabilities

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale automation and/or MES projects, managing cross-functional teams and delivering on schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Strong understanding of GMP operations and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
  • Hands-on experience creating SDLC documentation and executing validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Practical, hands-on expertise with:
    • PLCs (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley)
    • SCADA/HMI platforms (Wonderware, FactoryTalk, WinCC)
    • Historian systems, batch automation, and industrial networking
  • Experience with MES platforms (e.g., PAS‑X, Siemens OpCenter), including:
    • Configuration and troubleshooting
    • Batch execution and recipe management
    • Integrations with ERP, LIMS, QMS, and historian systems
  • Strong project planning, risk management, vendor coordination, and status reporting skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority, lead diverse teams, present to sr leadership, and support training efforts while maintaining safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with automation platforms such as Rockwell FactoryTalk, DeltaV, Wonderware, and PLCs (Siemens/Allen Bradley).
  • Solid understanding of industrial networking (e.g., Profibus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP).
  • Strong experience in GMP compliance and Computer System Validation (CSV).
  • Experience with MES system ownership, including recipe configuration, MBR design, and enterprise integrations (LIMS, ERP, PI Historian, QMS).
  • Experience supporting or leading system upgrades, migrations, or cloud/historian integrations is a plus.
  • Demonstrated automation project leadership and strong project management skills.

This is a Contract position based out of Framingham, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $78.00/hr.
