As a member-supported nonprofit, the Flynn relies on charitable contributions from members, individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners to sustain and grow its work. With more than three decades of presenting transformative performing arts experiences, the Flynn has built a loyal base of supporters and continues to expand its reach across Vermont and beyond.

The Annual Giving Manager is a core member of the Development team, responsible for implementing and coordinating annual giving activities that support the Flynns fundraising goals. Working closely with the Development Director and colleagues across departments, this role carries out membership operations, supports grant activities, manages donor communications, and serves as a Development project coordinator for fundraising-related efforts, ensuring timelines, materials, and data are accurate and aligned.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Membership Strategy & Tracking:

  • Work with the Development Director to implement annual membership plans and fundraising priorities
  • Track progress toward membership and annual giving goals and report on results
  • Use data from Tessitura and TRG to support evaluation and decision-making
  • Prepare and maintain reports for departmental use as well as board and staff updates

Membership Program Implementation:

  • Conduct research and outreach to support new member acquisition
  • Prepare biannual member impact reports and other member-facing materials
  • Carry out member stewardship activities, ensuring timely, accurate, and welcoming donor experiences
  • Process and track member benefits and acknowledgments
  • Coordinate monthly membership renewal appeals and related communications
  • Support the sustaining membership program, including tracking, communications, and renewals
  • Coordinate member receptions, luncheons, and engagement events
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote membership opportunities across channels and at Flynn performances and events
  • Staff membership tables at events and performances as needed

Grants:

  • Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and reports for general operating and program support
  • Research prospective funders and track grant opportunities
  • Enter and maintain grant records, deadlines, and reporting requirements in Tessitura
  • Support funder stewardship through communications, reporting, and follow-up

Donor Communications:

  • Coordinate and maintain the annual Development calendar of fundraising events and donor solicitations, supporting cross-departmental execution of campaigns with the Development and Marketing teams
  • Maintain and update donor- and member-facing content on the Flynn website, ensuring accuracy of giving information, membership benefits, and recognition language
  • Draft and prepare donor-facing communications, including emails, mailings, and social media content, in coordination with the Development and Marketing teams

Data & Systems:

  • Maintain accurate donor and member records in Tessitura, supporting overall data integrity through regular review, updates, and adherence to database standards
  • Generate member and donor lists and maintain recognition name preferences
  • Support prospect identification by collecting, organizing, and analyzing donor data

General Development & Event Support:

  • Serve as the Development Department project coordinator for select fundraising-related events (e.g., La Nuit, Chinese New Year, Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, Playing Fields), managing Development timelines, donor communications, lists, and stewardship in collaboration with internal teams
  • Support other Development-led fundraising activities and events as needed
  • Provide knowledgeable, courteous donor and patron support by phone and in person

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervise volunteers and/or work study students on an ad hoc, as needed basis

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelors Degree preferred, or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to the performing arts and to the Flynns mission
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience working with databases; Tessitura experience strongly preferred
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by events and performances
