Privately held company headquartered Northern Massachusetts (Rt 495) the company operates an integrated light manufacturing and distribution center, with two third-party overflow warehouses in the U.S. With approximately $150 million in annual revenue, over 450 employees.

The Position

\n

The Manufacturing Engineer drives continuous improvement, waste reduction, and cost-effective production across operations. Bringing together Industrial and Mechanical Engineering disciplines, this role designs and optimizes equipment, tooling, and processes that improve throughput, quality, and ergonomics by applying Lean methods to support new product launches and ongoing operational excellence. This is a hands-on, highly visible role on the factory floor that requires close partnership with production, product development, quality, and maintenance teams to turn engineering concepts into executed shop floor results. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this position serves as a critical bridge between design concepts and floor-level execution.

This individual will champion technical projects, mentor manufacturing teams in standard work adoption, and aggressively eliminate waste to support the company’s strategy.

Principal Responsibilities & Duties

  • Champion engineering projects that improve throughput, yield, and ergonomics while reducing operating expenses through strategic automation, error-proofing, and waste reduction.
  • \n

  • Design, modify, and optimize production equipment, tooling, and fixtures using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, leveraging 3D printing and rapid prototyping to support operations.
  • \n

  • Lead plant automation and robotics initiatives to improve repeatability, safety, and manufacturing capacity. Provide project management by identifying, justifying, and submitting CapEx requests while managing equipment purchasing, installation, and testing before production release.
  • \n

  • Develop plant-area expertise and serve as the technical liaison between the factory floor and New Equipment & Process Development teams to drive cross-functional problem-solving.
  • \n

  • Conduct time studies and capacity analyses to establish cost and production standards while creating, maintaining, and monitoring standard work documentation.
  • \n

  • Provide leadership in safe plant operations by serving on the Safety Committee to resolve operational issues and eliminate workplace hazards. Troubleshoot equipment failures to maximize uptime and protect production commitments.
  • \n

  • Develop innovative manufacturing processes and train the workforce to ensure adoption and standardization of best practices. Drive continuous improvement through process observations, data collection, and participation in the Idea Generation System.

The Candidate

\n

The Company seeks a dynamic, analytical, and hands-on manufacturing engineer who brings a balance of mechanical design capability and industrial workflow optimization to the facility. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing capital projects from justification through installation, designing custom fixtures, and leveraging Lean tools to eliminate floor waste. This individual must possess an active floor presence and be comfortable partnering directly with operators, maintenance technicians, and senior management alike.

This role requires a collaborative problem-solver who can work independently with minimal supervision while balancing multiple technical priorities under pressure. The ideal engineer will couple technical innovationwith excellent communication and coaching skills to foster a structured, standardized, and continuously improving manufacturing culture.

Summary of Requirements

\n

    \n
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (BSIE or BSME), or equivalent related field or technical experience with a strong background in process and equipment design.
  • \n

  • 3-6 years of progressive engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, with demonstrated strength across both Industrial and Mechanical Engineering disciplines.
  • \n

  • High proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) for the custom design of equipment, tooling, and fixtures, utilizing both additive manufacturing (3D printing) and traditional machining processes.
  • \n

  • Strong analytical and data skills, including experience conducting time studies, capacity analyses, and statistical analysis using Minitab and Microsoft Excel.
  • \n

  • Demonstrated experience using Lean manufacturing methodologies and tools to optimize standard work, improve throughput, and reduce process variation.
  • \n

  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to synthesize technical data into actionable shop floor standard procedures.
  • \n

  • Core competencies including creative problem solving, analytical thinking, integrity, professionalism, and a strong internal drive for measurable operational results.
  • \n

  • Able to work independently, conduct process observations across multiple shifts, and balance multiple project priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • \n

  • Hands-on experience with automation and robotics in a production setting is highly preferred.
  • \n

  • Bilingual language skills (English/Spanish) are strongly preferred to effectively train and mentor a diverse manufacturing workforce.
