Overview
West River Valley Thrives (WRVT) seeks an enthusiastic, dependable, community-minded Community Programs Coordinator to expand prevention programming, strengthen community partnerships, engage youth and families, and support community events throughout the West River Valley. This flexible, part-time position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, building relationships, teaching, and bringing community programs and events to life. The Community Programs Coordinator will work closely with WRVT staff, schools, libraries, community organizations, youth, families, and other local partners to increase opportunities for connection, education, and positive youth development. The position is 10–15 hours per week and offers a hybrid schedule, with some work completed remotely and regular in-person work throughout WRVT's service area.
Key Responsibilities
Community Programming & Partnerships
● In collaboration with the WRVT team, build and maintain relationships with local libraries, schools, recreation programs, community organizations, businesses, and other partners.
● Identify opportunities to bring prevention, wellness, and positive youth development programming into community spaces.
● Collaborate with community partners to develop activities and programs that respond to local needs.
● In collaboration with the WRVT Communications team, help increase WRVT's visibility and presence throughout the communities we serve.
● Represent WRVT at community meetings, programs, outreach activities, and events as needed. Prevention Education & Youth Engagement
● In collaboration with the Youth Engagement Coordinator, assist in delivering age-appropriate, evidence-informed prevention and life-skills curriculum with elementary, middle, and high school students and other youth groups.
● In collaboration with the Youth Engagement Coordinator, support programming focused on substance misuse prevention, mental wellness, healthy decision-making, coping skills, protective factors, and positive youth development.
● Create welcoming and engaging learning environments where youth feel comfortable participating and sharing their perspectives.
● Work with WRVT staff and school/community partners to coordinate prevention programming and scheduling.
● Assist with youth-led prevention initiatives and opportunities for youth voice and leadership. Event Planning & Implementation
● Help plan, coordinate, promote, and carry out WRVT community and youth events, as needed.
● Coordinate event logistics, including locations, supplies, activities, volunteers, community partners, and setup/cleanup.
● Develop engaging activities for youth and families at community events.
● Attend and help facilitate WRVT-sponsored events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
● Assist with outreach and promotion to encourage community participation.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
● Enjoys working with youth, families, and community members.
● Is comfortable facilitating groups and presenting information to youth and adults.
● Has strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
● Is creative, dependable, flexible, and able to take initiative.
● Can manage multiple projects and follow through on responsibilities.
● Is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
● Is willing to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events.
● Has reliable transportation for travel throughout the West River Valley.
Experience in education, youth development, prevention, public health, community outreach, social services, recreation, or nonprofit work is preferred but not required. We can provide training in prevention programming and curricula.
Position Details
Schedule: 10–15 hours per week
Salary: $22-24/hr
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with remote administrative work and regular in-person programming throughout the West River Valley
Schedule Flexibility: Hours will vary depending on school programming, community partnerships, meetings, and events. Some evening and weekend availability will be required.
West River Valley Thrives is a community-based prevention coalition working to strengthen protective factors, promote positive youth development, support mental wellness, and prevent youth substance misuse. WRVT serves the communities of Townshend, Newfane, Brookline, Jamaica, Windham, Marlboro, and Wardsboro.
