Job DescriptionRole Summary
Our client, a manufacturing organization, is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing automation and control systems.
This role focuses on PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial network support across manufacturing operations. The position works closely with plant teams and corporate engineering to improve system performance, troubleshoot issues, and support new equipment and system implementations.
This is a self-directed role with remote leadership support, requiring strong initiative and the ability to operate independently within a plant environment.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, integrate, and maintain PLC-based control systems, HMIs, and industrial automation solutions.

Support manufacturing systems including MES platforms (e.g., Ignition).

Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley / Rockwell automation systems (RSLogix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk).

Assist with system start-ups, commissioning, and troubleshooting across multiple facilities.

Collaborate with plant technicians and operations teams to resolve electrical and automation issues.

Support industrial communication networks (WAN/LAN) and connectivity between systems.

Contribute to system improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency and output.

Create documentation and training materials for maintenance and operations teams.

Support integration of sensors, drives, and instrumentation (e.g., flow meters, temperature probes, VFDs).

Participate in project work, including system upgrades and new installations.
Required Qualifications

Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLC and HMI systems.

Strong understanding of industrial automation and electrical systems.

Experience with manufacturing systems and plant-floor support.

Understanding of industrial networking (WAN/LAN).

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a manufacturing environment.

Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical teams.

Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.

Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.

Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.

Familiarity with MES systems (e.g., Ignition).

Rockwell FactoryTalk, RSView

Wonderware (InTouch, System Platform, Historian)

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)

Exposure to SQL databases, AutoCAD, virtualization tools (VMWare).

Programming experience (e.g., Python, C++, Java, or similar).

Familiarity with industrial sensors and instrumentation.

Experience with Cisco networking hardware.
