Plastics Machine Operator II

  • Full-Time

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machine Operator II to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for operating injection molding machines and supporting secondary operations including inspection, assembly, and packaging of finished goods. The Machine Operator II operates multiple pieces of manufacturing equipment of moderate to high complexity while maintaining production standards, quality requirements, and safety protocols.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operate injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment, including complex jobs requiring hand loads.
  • Inspect, assemble, and properly package finished parts according to Work Orders and Program Information Guides.
  • Record production and scrap information on P-charts; calculate percentages to interpret scrap rates.
  • Perform basic ERP transactions (scrap entry, downtime reporting, inventory lookup).
  • Identify and report quality issues such as flash, splay, contamination, and other molded part defects.
  • Utilize magnifying lamps, microscopes, go/no-go gauges, calipers, micrometers, vision systems, and TAPPI charts to verify product compliance.
  • Read and interpret basic engineering drawings and update in-process quality control records.
  • Accurately weigh, count, and package finished goods for shipment.
  • Set up workstations for new jobs, including leveling and setting scales, verifying labels and work orders, and ensuring proper packaging materials are available.
  • Operate within a clean room environment, following proper gowning, material transfer, and clean room procedures.
  • Trim flash and gates using small hand tools.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by supporting 5S practices and participating in audits.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and utilize computer-based systems for self-training.
  • May assist in training other operators.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Machine Operator role within plastic injection molding or a related manufacturing environment, or demonstrated proficiency in advanced operator competencies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Clean room experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of plastic molded part defects.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills; ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentage calculations in various units of measurement.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate ERP systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend throughout the shift.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Capable of working independently in a clean room and manufacturing environment.
