Job Description
Job Description
It’s about time.
Every year, over 8 billion hours are spent braiding hair. HaloBraid is redefining braiding, building the world’s first AI-powered braiding robot, turning a six-hour process into minutes. We’ve proven the technology, completed thousands of braids in testing, and we’re nearing the end of R&D. We’re searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who wants to help bring this future to life.
We’re well funded by top tier hardware and consumer investors, recently closing an oversubscribed round to fuel our next stage of growth. You’ll be on the forefront of invention, taking complex mechanisms from prototype to polished product, collaborating with industrial design, and shaping an entirely new category of beauty robotics.
What You’ll Do
- Architect and own the design of mechanical systems and sub-assemblies from 3D CAD to production-ready parts.
- Prototype, test, and iterate fast: build, break, and refine to ensure durability and reliability for salon-grade use.
- Engineer for scale: apply DFM/DFA principles and collaborate with suppliers to transition designs into volume manufacturing.
- Bridge disciplines: work with industrial designers to marry form, function, and ergonomics; partner with embedded and controls engineers to integrate motion, sensing, and actuation.
- Mentor and elevate: guide junior engineers, set mechanical standards, and strengthen our engineering culture.
Lead and own: challenge conventions, drive design reviews, and push for elegant, reliable solutions.
Requirements
Who You Are
- At least 6 years of experience in mechanical design and CAD (SolidWorks or OnShape preferred).
- Hands-on builder with deep intuition for moving mechanisms.
- Proven experience in DFM and mass manufacturing methods (injection molding, CNC, sheet metal, etc.).
- Track record of taking products from concept through launch.
- Comfortable with rapid prototyping (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining).
- Collaborative communicator with the ability to clearly convey ideas across disciplines.
- Excited to mentor, learn, and own outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Points If You…
- Have worked on consumer electronics, 3D printing, robotics, or beauty tools.
- Bring mechatronics know-how (motors, actuators, end effectors).
- Have incorporated CFD into your design optimization process.
Have startup DNA—scrappy, inventive, and energized by ambiguity.
Why HaloBraid?
If you want to change haircare with breakthrough hardware and leave a mark on both engineering and culture, this seat is built for you.
- Defining a new category: Be part of the team shipping the world’s first hairbraiding robot to help stylists build their business.
- Mission with meaning: Reduce a six-hour process to minutes, transform stylist income, and reimagine protective hairstyles.
- Backed by the best: Supported by top investors, advisors, and partners as we move from R&D to launch.
- Culture that creates: Purposeful, efficient, supportive, and open to ideation and critique.
- Impact without ceilings: If it’s mission-critical and unowned, it’s yours.
