Job Description

Job Description Why this matters

If you thrive on turning ambiguous failures into crisp root causes and love building automation that scales across factories, you’ll help Symbotic’s AI-powered robots move consumer goods faster and smarter through a fully automated supply chain.

Is this you?

  • Do you enjoy crafting PCBA and interface-board designs that anchor reliable production test?
  • Can you bring up new hardware—component selection, reviews, rework, and debug—without skipping a beat?
  • Are you comfortable architecting power distribution, relay/mux networks, signal conditioning, DAQ, and instrumentation into cohesive test systems?
  • Do you write clean Python to control instruments, execute tests, log data, and drive diagnostics?
  • Will you grab an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM, or power analyzer and isolate a tricky failure at board or system level?
  • Can you lead deployments at internal sites and CMs, lift yields, and own failure analysis end-to-end?
  • Do you turn production and field data into better coverage, higher reliability, and faster factories?
  • Will you define NPI strategies, validation plans, and manufacturing test requirements that scale?
  • Can you rally Electrical, Firmware, Software, Mechanical, and Manufacturing peers around a shared solution?
  • Do you enjoy mentoring and setting a high bar for debugging discipline and engineering best practices?

What you’ll tackle

  • Lead test and validation for complex robotic/electromechanical products from concept to production deployment.
  • Own timelines, deliverables, and readiness checkpoints for fixture and system rollouts.
  • Continuously harden test architecture, improve fixture reliability, and deepen automation.

What you bring

  • BS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and 8+ years in hardware design, manufacturing test, or system validation.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCBA design (Altium or similar).
  • Hands-on mastery of bring-up, soldering/rework, and component-level debugging.
  • Expertise in analog/digital circuits, power electronics, SI, grounding, EMI/noise, and protection circuits.
  • Comfort with oscilloscopes, DMMs, programmable supplies, electronic loads, logic analyzers, and DAQ systems.
  • Experience building fixtures with relays, multiplexers, interface boards, and automated measurement systems.
  • Python (or similar) for automation and production diagnostics.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing and collaborating directly with CMs.
  • Protocol know-how: CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet plus debugging tools.
  • Data logging, database integration, analytics of test results, and failure trend analysis.
  • Background with embedded systems, sensors, motors, or electromechanical products.
  • Leadership in technical projects, execution ownership, and mentoring; clear communication and organization.

Nice-to-have boosts

  • Robotics/automation or high-volume manufacturing experience.
  • SCPI-based instrument control; automated validation frameworks.
  • Production diagnostics, reliability testing, and robust root-cause methodologies.
  • Manufacturing processes awareness, fixture ergonomics, and DFT principles.

Travel and logistics

  • Up to 20% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

Key proficiencies

  • Electrical Schematics
  • PCB Assembly (Printed Circuit Board Assembly)
