Job Description
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Industry: Finance & Accounting
Location: Wilmington, MA
Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000 / YEAR
Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
Work Schedule: Full-time, business hours
Type: Temp-to-Perm
Position Summary
This is a staff accountant seat supporting three distinct businesses under one roof — an established coatings and manufacturer's rep sales organization with 50+ years in operation, a growing importer bringing goods in from the UK and Belgium, and a consumer product startup with national brand recognition. You'd support all three alongside one other accountant and the CFO. That means you're not doing one narrow slice of AP in a corner — you're touching the full ledger, close, AR/AP across all three entities, and real Excel-driven analysis. It's the kind of role where a strong generalist gets seen, gets variety, and actually gets to think.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger activity across all three entities
- Process AR and AP invoices and manage related activity for each business
- Support month-end close — current target is the 5th–10th of each month
- Perform Excel-driven analysis including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and complex nested functions
- Flex across the varying needs of an established sales org, a growing importer, and an e-commerce startup
- Collaborate directly with the CFO and one other accountant as part of a lean, high-visibility function
- Assist with sales tax and other compliance-related tasks as needed
Qualifications
Required
- Solid general ledger fundamentals — debits, credits, journal entries, reconciliations
- Hands-on AR and AP experience across the full cycle
- Genuine Excel proficiency — VLOOKUPs and pivot tables are the floor; reading nested and complex functions is a plus. This is tested in the interview process, so please represent your skill level accurately
- High energy, entrepreneurial mindset, and a strong work ethic
- Comfortable moving fast around close and operating without a rigid playbook
- Long-term oriented — this team is small by design and built for people who want to grow in place
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Sage or comparable accounting software a plus
Preferred
- Sales tax experience
- Exposure to multi-entity accounting
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or e-commerce environment
