Mechanical Project Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead mechanical design and execution for building and industrial projects. This role will manage MEP/HVAC design, coordinate BIM/Revit models, produce mechanical drawings and calculations, and support site delivery to ensure projects meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, experience with HVAC and MEP systems, proficiency in Revit/CAD and BIM workflows, and an EIT or path toward PE.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and engineering for projects, including HVAC, piping, and related MEP systems.
- Develop and review mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and calculations.
- Manage and maintain BIM/Revit models; coordinate multi-discipline models and resolve clashes using Navisworks or similar tools.
- Coordinate with architects, electrical/plumbing engineers, contractors, fabricators, and clients to ensure integrated design and timely delivery.
- Prepare cost estimates, material takeoffs, and support procurement and vendor selection.
- Support construction phase with site visits, submittal review, RFI responses, change management and commissioning activities.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards and client requirements (e.g., ASHRAE, local mechanical codes).
- Lead QA/QC reviews and enforce drawing and model standards to maintain consistency and constructability.
- Develop and track project schedules, milestones, and deliverables; report project status to project managers and stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with external consultants and subcontractors as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; active PE license or ability to pursue PE is a plus.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in mechanical/MEP engineering, with demonstrated HVAC design and project delivery experience.
- Proficiency in Revit (BIM), AutoCAD, and Navisworks; experience with BIM 360 or other collaboration platforms preferred.
- Strong mechanical calculations skills including load calculations, duct sizing, piping and pump sizing, and equipment selection.
- Experience with MEP coordination, clash detection and resolution in multi-discipline projects.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, local mechanical/plumbing codes).
- Good project management skills: scheduling, estimating, document control, and client communication.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and in teams.
- LEED accreditation, HVAC design software experience (e.g., HAP, Trace), and knowledge of fabrication/shop drawing workflows are desirable.
