Job Description
Job DescriptionFacility Safety Program Manager -Own Safety for a High-Impact Industrial Site
Rochester, MA
Be the safety leader that keeps a complex operation running right
You’ll own the safety program for a major industrial facility – strategic, tactical, and hands-on in the field.
This is where regulatory compliance, real-world risk, and front-line operations all collide. You’re the one who makes sure everyone goes home safe.
You won’t just maintain a program; you’ll drive safety culture, elevate practices, and be the trusted voice on what “safe” really means on site.
If you know industrial or power environments and live in OSHA, investigations, and training, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Work On
You’ll be the safety point person for a busy, industrial/power-plant style facility:
- Facility-wide safety and health programs
- Regulatory and corporate safety compliance
- OSHA VPP and related safety initiatives
- Contractor and temporary worker safety performance
- Accident investigations and root cause analysis
- Fire protection systems and inspections
- Medical surveillance and industrial hygiene monitoring
- Employee training and field safety oversight
You’ll be working within OSHA 1910 and 1926 frameworks, OSHA VPP, and safety practices common to power plants, waste-to-energy, industrial, and manufacturing environments.
This is a true “boots-in-the-field” safety leadership role, not a desk job.
What You'll Be Doing
- Monitoring regulatory compliance and adherence to corporate safety program requirements
- Leading OSHA VPP efforts and other safety program initiatives
- Implementing, motivating, educating, and enforcing safety and health policies
- Overseeing contractor and temp safety and health performance with facility management
- Ensuring contractors/temps are properly trained and using appropriate tools and equipment
- Actively monitoring workplace safety in the field through frequent presence
- Conducting formal and informal safety inspections, evaluations, and follow-up reporting
- Managing accident investigations, root cause analyses, and associated documentation
- Coordinating with plant personnel and contractors on fire system inspection, testing, and functionality
- Serving as primary contact with the plant’s health clinic
- Scheduling annual physical exams, hearing tests, and respirator evaluations
- Managing the Medical Surveillance Program, audiological exams, lead exposure surveys, and industrial hygiene monitoring
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in safety, health, or a science-related area; or HS diploma/equivalent with 2-5 years Health & Safety experience in industrial, power, or manufacturing environments
- Minimum 5 years Occupational Health and Safety experience in a power plant or related industry
- Experience with operations and maintenance in industrial, manufacturing, or power plant environments
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926
- Experience with OSHA VPP or related state safety and health regulations
- Background in power plant, waste-to-energy, industrial, or closely related fields
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb ladders in an industrial setting
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work from heights, in confined spaces, and qualify to wear a full-face respirator
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention
You’ve been the go-to safety professional in a power or heavy industrial environment, comfortable moving from the control room to the field to the clinic in a single day. You know how to engage operators, mechanics, and contractors, turn regulations into real-world practices, and lead meaningful investigations that actually change behavior.
Your OSHA 1910/1926 expertise is matched by your familiarity with medical surveillance, IH monitoring, and fire protection systems. You’re energized by OSHA VPP-level programs and can speak both the language of compliance and the language of the plant floor.
OSHA 1910 • OSHA 1926 • OSHA VPP • power plant safety • industrial safety • manufacturing safety • medical surveillance • industrial hygiene monitoring • fire system inspection/testing • accident investigation • root cause analysis • contractor safety
Why This Opportunity?
This is your chance to own the safety program at a single high-impact facility, reporting directly to the Facility Manager and leading at both the policy and field level.
You’ll have direct influence over how safety is lived every day – from contractor performance to accident investigations to medical surveillance and fire systems.
If you want a role where your decisions and presence in the field make a visible, daily difference, this is it.
Important Requirements
Full-time, on-site role in West Wareham, MA.
Monday–Friday schedule with availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a non-routine basis as needed to support facility operations.
Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, in various weather conditions, lift/carry 50 lbs, and qualify to wear a full-face respirator.
Interested?
If you’re ready to lead safety for a complex industrial operation and keep people safe through real-world, hands-on leadership, let’s talk.
