Picture your day starting at a clean, ESD-safe bench. You review a first-article build, study a complex schematic, and map out your plan. Before lunch, you’ve routed a precision harness, integrated a PCB assembly, and verified torque on a mechanical subframe. The afternoon shifts to diagnostics: oscilloscopes and custom fixtures on the cart, chasing down a system-level anomaly and documenting your findings for engineering. Along the way, you mentor a teammate on best-practice crimping and help refine a digital traveler to make the next build smoother. That’s a typical day for our senior assembler—hands-on, technical, and pivotal to product quality.
What You’ll Do
- Build advanced electro-mechanical assemblies: precision wiring, harness fabrication, PCB integration, mechanical build-ups, and full system installs.
- Translate complex engineering documentation—schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, change orders—into flawless work.
- Run functional tests using meters, oscilloscopes, fixtures, and custom test equipment; analyze results and record outcomes.
- Diagnose system-level failures, perform root-cause analysis, and partner with engineering, quality, and production leadership on corrective actions.
- Lead prototype and first-article efforts; provide actionable DFM feedback and recommend workflow and design improvements.
- Review and validate work instructions, BOMs, and assembly documentation; suggest updates that improve clarity and throughput.
- Coach junior and mid-level assemblers on tools, techniques, and troubleshooting; assist with training for new hires and cross-functional staff.
- Advance continuous improvement initiatives (lean, 5S, workflow optimization, process standardization) to elevate safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Uphold safety standards, ESD protocols, and quality system requirements at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; Associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, mechatronics, or related field strongly preferred.
- 5–8+ years in electro-mechanical assembly, system integration, or similar technical roles.
- Expert at interpreting complex electrical and mechanical documentation.
- Highly proficient with torque tools, soldering, crimp systems, precision measurement, and diagnostic instruments.
- In-depth knowledge of AC/DC, grounding, EMI/RFI, shielding, circuitry, and core mechanical principles.
- Proven ability to independently resolve complex assembly, wiring, and integration issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including documentation and technical reporting.
- Leadership mindset with mentoring experience and team-level training support.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work for extended periods in a production setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, or similar certifications.
- Background in high-reliability sectors such as aerospace, medical devices, defense, or robotics.
- Familiarity with root-cause methods (Fishbone, 5 Whys, Pareto).
- Experience with NPI and prototype builds.
- Comfort with ERP/MRP systems, digital travelers, and electronic work instructions.
