SUMMARY: The Assistant Public Safety Manager (APSM) - Event Operations serves as the primary contact for all assigned, contracted events for public safety/ security needs. It is their goal to ensure the highest level of customer service while maximizing efficiencies to ensure the successful management of assigned events within the designated facility. The APSM provides on-site follow up and oversees execution of public safety/ security services and event logistics for each assigned event. The APSM provides leadership and direction to our contracted security service teams. Supports the overall mission of the Public Safety Department and coordinates with emergency first responders when necessary. May act as the Public Safety Manager – Event Operations in their absence.

  • Oversees and is responsible for event security planning and execution at the MCCA venues for all assigned events
  • Responsible for ensuring all Event Public Safety Department personnel have a detailed understanding of each facility’s Emergency Operations Procedures including but not limited to Facility Evacuation Procedures.
  • Works on developing and recommending all management plans to oversee all assigned events at the MCCAsdesignated facility.
  • Is the single point of contact for both the client and MCCA event services for all assigned events within the MCCAs designatedfacility.
  • Responsible for attending all event Pre-Conference & Post Conference meetings at the MCEC& Hynes for each assigned event.
  • Assists with coordinating all assigned event pre-planning meetings with other MCCA departments.
  • During all assigned events, will serve as the MCCA client liaison with show management, show security consulting, approved security vendors, and MCCA Event Management.
  • Responsible forassistingwithallscheduling and staffing relating to events at both theMCECand Hynes.
  • Responsible for developing and proposing all client event related security proposals.
  • Responsible for final bill submittal to event client and MCCA Venue Management System.
  • Responsible for developing and reviewing all MCCA event security proposals from all security contractors related to each assigned event.
  • Responsible for workingin conjunction with the MCCA clients, decorators, and regulatory event fire safety floor planapprovers, prior to the opening of an event.
  • Oversees andis responsible forthe supervision and deployment of all contract security services providers.
  • Prior to, during, and following events, is the primary point of contact with other Authority departments, clients, and client contractors related to event public safety,securityand medical services for assigned events.
  • Responsible for the on-site inspection of all assigned event floor plans and works in conjunction with the Public Safety Manager for final approval.

Safety / Security

  • Responds to all emergency calls as the MCCA Incident Commander during assigned events.
  • Responsible for enforcing all applicable MCCA, federal, state, and city licenses and statutes.
  • Primary point of contact with police, fire, civil defense, emergency management, medical and other public safety agenciesregardingissues affecting the Authority, itspersonnel,and its facilities.
  • When assigned,represents the Authority atpublic safety, security, emergency management, and medical related meetings of professional organizations.
  • Prepares andmaintainsall departmental reports, records, and logs for each assigned event.
  • Reviews and documents performance of those he/she is assigned to manage.
  • Assists and recommends MCCA Public Safety training including emergency training, event security training, customer service training, and Operations training MCCA wide.
  • Develops and maintains professional networks within professional organizations associated with the convention center and hospitality industry.
  • Inspects MCCA facilities relative to ensuring the appropriate levels of security are being enforced across all facilities including but not limited to the MCCA Badge & Contractor ID Policy.
  • Ensures that the framework of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), including Incident Command System (ICS) is being utilized during any emergency response.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision is provided by the Senior Public Safety Manager – Event Operations and includes assignment of duties, inspection of work, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE: Associates degree with two or more years’ experience in the hospitality/ convention meeting industry that includes experience coordinating or assisting small events and meetings or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Public Safety related field experience and training may substitute for the degree requirement.

  • Negotiation and decision-making skills as well as the ability tomultitaskare essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developing andmaintainingstaffing schedules, with experience in security, property management, operations, law enforcement policies, and investigative procedures are preferred.
  • A well-organized individual who is a team player who can relate to people at all levels of an organization,possessesexcellent communication skills, flexibility, and has a working knowledge ofstate-of-the-artword processing and computer-related analytical tools and databases, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Mustpossessa valid US Driver’s License and must havelicenseand a driving record acceptable to the MCCA tooperatea vehicle in the State of Massachusetts.
  • It is preferable that the incumbent be CPR and First Aid certified.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Candidates who have received a conditional offer of employment must satisfactorily pass a pre- employment screening for controlled substances and alcohol, criminal records review, background and reference check, and pre-employment physical. Employees will be subject to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident-controlled substances and alcohol testing and to periodic review of criminal records as determined by MCCA.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule of this position is a non-traditional work schedule and will fluctuate based on the needs of a particular event or project and the position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, early mornings, long days, weekends and holidays.

DRESS CODE: In order to project a professional image and the level of dignity and decorum that is required when serving the public, good grooming are expected of all employees. Employees will be supplied with and required to wear uniforms as determined by the MCCA.
